Josh March pulls off ‘oldest trick in the book’ to score winner for Crewe against Northampton
Josh March pulls off the ‘oldest trick in the book’ to score the winner for Crewe in their 1-0 win against Northampton.
It came in the the 53rd minute, March waited beside the goal, and despite being warned by a fellow Northampton player, keeper Zach Jeacock decides to roll the ball out anyway.
But out comes March, pouncing on it and slots home the decisive goal, giving Crewe three wins in three (in all competition), and sit 2nd in the League Two table at this very early stage.

He was off the pitch already because of the attacking play, he didn’t leave the pitch to begin the disguise therefore it’s deemed as legal

Crewe boss Lee Bell said on the winning goal: “I think he’s just bright. Josh, his momentum’s taking him off the pitch and he’s caught the goalkeeper out. Really bright play. And again, it was a time when we were on top in the game.
“So, you know, he’s bright thinking, but again, bizarre goal, bizarre game last week. As long as you’re winning them, that’s all that matters.”
On thinking it might have got chalked off: “No, because I think he’s gone off naturally. I think if you go off the pitch on purpose, then it’s called off.
“I’m not sure about the rule. But I believe if you go off the pitch naturally and then you re-enter it in that manner, it’s okay.
“But look, it’s a goal and that’s all that counts.”

“I’m really pleased to win the game and get a clean sheet.”

Northampton’s Chris Hogg said, as per the club website: “I’m disappointed with the result, we had really good spells in the first half and we should have made more of the chances we had,” he said.
“We lost our way a little bit after they scored, we came back and pushed towards the end but didn’t work their keeper enough.
“For 15 minutes after they scored we lost control and that is something we have to eradicate from our game.
“We can’t afford spells like that in games, we couldn’t wrestle back momentum after they scored and that’s something we have spoken about after the game.
“It was clever play from Crewe for the goal and I was really disappointed with how that came about. There are some ambiguities around the laws of the game as their player left the pitch but our focus and concentration have to be better.
“I’m quite realistic of where we are at, some of the performances today were quite good but that doesn’t get you three points and we need to be better.
“I don’t like losing games and especially in the manner that we did today.
“We all need to get better, we have to take some of the performance levels on from today but make sure that we are at it for the 90 minutes.”
Here’s how Josh March pulls off the ‘oldest trick in the book’ to score a winner for Crewe against Northampton…
@AwaydaysDan90: Danny rose for Stevenage couple years back.. Funnily enough Josh March was in the same Stevenage team that day aswell.
@pote_jnrAFC: the defender was alerting the goalkeeper ffs man 🤣🤣 @TheRainbowStand Law 4 and Law 12. A player cannot simply use being outside the field as a tactical advantage and then return without permission. It could therefore be considered this player successfully deceived an official. 2 game ban isnt it @fa @efl. I dont make the rules up.
@simongrowcott: left the playing area naturally as part of the previous action, so doesn’t require permission to re-enter it. Not his fault the goalie wants to play billy big bollocks and ignore his own defender screaming man on.
@oxfjack: The #7 patting him on the head afterwards hahahaha
@JayBryan_DJ: What makes this better is the Northampton manager was screaming at his goalie to not put the ball down as March was behind him. Obviously the GRE roar was deafening for the goalkeeper. Clever from March, whichever way you look at it. #CreweAlex
@JxmesCPFC: It’s been years since one of these! Beautiful stuff.
@LeicesterP88: And this is why the EFL is better than the Prem. Love shit like this haha
They did but the GK was in his own world
