Why F1 Drivers Fear Singapore

Welcome to the Singapore Grand Prix, where the sun goes down and the temperature only drops from 31 to 30 degrees.

With humidity near 90%, the drivers’ sweat can’t evaporate, so they never cool down. Cockpits get close to 60 degrees, drivers lose up to 3 kilos in a race, and under braking they feel about 5G at 7 corners every lap. After drivers were sick and nearly passed out in Qatar in 2023, the FIA invented the heat hazard, and Singapore was the first race to be declared one.

On track, it’s a street circuit where overtaking is almost impossible and the last 3 winners all started from pole. But this year it hosts the final Sprint of the season, which means extra points and 1 more chance for chaos in the title fight.
