Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello’s divorce is back in the headlines, and this time he is the one doing the talking. The Modern Family star has long said their age gap and different views on having kids ended their marriage in 2023. Joe’s upcoming memoir, Bloodlines, paints a much darker picture of their final years together, and the excerpts released so far have already sparked a cryptic response from Sofía.

Why Did Sofía Vergara and Joe Manganiello Divorce?
Sofía first opened up about the breakup in a January 2024 interview with the Spanish newspaper El País, explaining that she and Joe simply wanted different futures.
“Well, I’m newly divorced from my second husband, who I was with for 10 years. My marriage broke up because my husband was younger. He wanted to have kids and I didn’t want to be an old mom.”
Sofía welcomed her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, with her first husband, Joe Gonzalez, in 1991. She told the outlet she was ready to be a grandmother rather than start over as a mom, and she added that any future partner would need to come with children of his own.
Sofía and Joe confirmed their marriage was over in July 2023, nearly eight years after their 2015 wedding, and Joe filed for divorce days later. The pair shared a joint statement at the time.
“As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
What Did Joe Manganiello Say About Sofía Vergara in His Memoir?
Joe’s side of the story is very different. In Bloodlines, he reveals a seven-year battle with a mysterious autoimmune illness that began shortly after the couple’s wedding and led to emergency surgery in 2016 to remove part of his intestines, TMZ reported. The True Blood star claims that Sofía refused to hug him while he was sick and ridiculed him over Bubbles, the chihuahua he adopted in 2019. He also disputes her explanation for their divorce, writing that he gave up on having children during his illness after rounds of IVF failed.
Joe told People that he wrote the book to finally show the world who he really is.
“This book was written because I want people to know who I am, and I had to hide who I was for a very long time.”
Sofía has not directly addressed the claims. On October 9, 2026, she reshared an Instagram post from Manolo comparing the traits of a good man with those of a narcissist, a move TMZ suggested may have been a subtle dig at her ex.
