Tottenham open preliminary talks with big club to sign France international
Tottenham‘s transfer planning is gathering pace, with reports this week pointing towards changes in both attack and midfield.
Roberto De Zerbi‘s side have started finding their feet on the pitch, but there are still questions about who could arrive and who might move on.
Gustavo Varela has become one of the intriguing names in the striker search.
Reports on Monday suggested that Spurs had scouts at Monza’s weekend game against Bologna to watch the Portuguese forward, and the 21-year-old has scored 11 goals in 10 appearances across all competitions this season, including nine in Serie A.
Another reported target is Eli Junior Kroupi.
Bournemouth are apparently unwilling to sell Kroupi during the winter window, with any serious discussion over his future pushed towards next summer.
There is business to consider at the other end of the striker list, too.
ESPN Brasil journalist Bruno Andrade reported that Everton and Fulham remain interested in Richarlison, but his salary is complicating matters, with neither club willing to match his existing Tottenham pay.
In midfield, Lucas Bergvall continues to attract attention from Barcelona, Napoli and Juventus, but it is believed that Spurs would be reluctant to approve a January departure without bringing in cover first.
Bergvall signed a contract until 2031 in September, so Tottenham have little reason to let interested clubs dictate the terms.
The Swede remains in De Zerbi’s plans, despite a spell disrupted by injury and limited minutes, with those stories leave Spurs weighing immediate needs against decisions that could shape their squad for several years.
Their latest reported enquiry looks further ahead.
Tottenham make Youssouf Fofana enquiry as AC Milan face summer decision
Ficherio claims Tottenham have held preliminary talks with AC Milan about signing Youssouf Fofana next summer after making initial contact.
The 25-cap France midfielder is currently playing for Sevilla on loan, but Milan remain the club Spurs must deal with.
According to the Spanish outlet, Tottenham have asked about the possibility of a transfer once this season finishes, with Juventus also making an approach.
The interest is linked to Fofana’s performances in Spain, where he has become an important figure since arriving in September, and he will be entering the final year of his Milan contract next summer.

Ficherio expects the Italian club to seek a sale at that point, while claiming Sevilla face major financial difficulties in keeping him.
Sevilla would therefore need a fresh agreement with Milan if they want to keep him after this season. Fofana, 27, has contributed one goal and three assists in eight La Liga appearances this season.
He would bring experience from France, Italy and Spain to De Zerbi’s midfield options, having played for Strasbourg and Monaco before joining Milan.
For now, the reported approach amounts to an early check on whether a summer move could work, and Spurs have time to assess him, but Juventus’ presence means they may have competition if they decide to push ahead.
