Manager who’s won 8 trophies now keen to replace Arbeloa at Fulham

Fulham have identified an “incredible” manager as a potential replacement for Alvaro Arbeloa, who remains under pressure, despite the victory against Hull City on Saturday.

Prior to the Cottagers hosting Hull at Craven Cottage, it was revealed Arbeloa could be sacked if he didn’t take four points from matches against the Tigers and Coventry City, but he has already managed to get three points on the board.

Alex Iwobi scored the only goal of the game, with the west Londoners grinding out a 1-0 victory against the newly-promoted side, but the manager has still been criticised for some of his decisions, such as starting Gonzalo Garcia.

The Spaniard isn’t out of the woods just yet, having taken just five points from his opening seven Premier League matches, during which time his side have scored just seven goals.

Indeed, Arbeloa remains under pressure, and it has now been revealed the Cottagers are considering bringing in a former Premier League manager as a replacement.

Fulham considering move for Vitor Pereira

Nottingham Forest manager Vitor Pereira applauds their fans after the match

According to a report from Football Insider, Fulham have identified Vitor Pereira as a leading candidate for the role of manager, with the former Nottingham Forest manager available after being sacked by the Tricky Trees at the end of last season.

Interestingly, Pereira would be keen on the job, as he is eager to return to the Premier League, although there is a feeling he would be concerned about the quality of the squad.

Former scout Mick Brown added: “He can’t have been happy with the way things ended at Nottingham Forest, he did an excellent job there and was only let go because they wanted to go in a new direction.

“That hasn’t exactly gone swimmingly for them so far, but Pereira is still highly rated because he’s done will in his Premier League jobs. So I don’t doubt there are clubs looking at him, and he will be keeping an eye on the situations at a few different clubs, because there are a few managers under pressure.”

An experienced manager, who has won eight trophies across a long career, the 58-year-old could be an exciting appointment for the Cottagers, not least because he did a solid job at Nottingham Forest last season.

Journalist Ben Jacobs described the ex-Forest boss as “incredible” during his time at the City Ground, so it was a surprise Evangelos Marinakis decided to replace him in the summer, albeit Oliver Glasner was a worthy replacement, after winning three trophies at Crystal Palace.

Nottingham Forest’s loss could be Fulham’s gain, but there may be some concerns over the fact the Portuguese manager was sacked by Wolverhampton Wanderers last season, after taking just two points from his opening ten Premier League matches.
