Liverpool readying offer to sign £70m star who’s now demanding to leave club

It’s a massive week for Liverpool. They’re running out of time to welcome reinforcements and are set to start their Premier League campaign short on wingers that they’ve desperately tried to sign.

The likes of Ibrahim Mbaye and Yan Diomande have threatened to steal the headlines throughout the summer, before the Reds failed to complete their moves.

Meanwhile, there is still hope that Bradley Barcola could arrive before the deadline passes in a move that could break Liverpool’s transfer record for the third time in 12 months.

But Barcola isn’t the only winger that Liverpool are after. They’re also look for an option on the right-hand side. It has always looked like Barcola and one other as a result and that one other may well be Yankuba Minteh.

The Brighton winger won’t be back from injury until October, but that’s not stopping those at Anfield. In pursuit of a direct, quick, young star, the Reds have set their sights on a new option.

His current spell on the sidelines will leave many wondering just why Liverpool are making their move, but a look into the numbers proves that Minteh actually makes perfect sense.

With Diomande off the table for a long time after his move to Real Madrid, Minteh is arguably the most comparable profile. No player completed more dribbles than the former in the Bundesliga last season (115) and whilst the latter isn’t quite at that level, he is still a threat one-on-one.

The deal won’t come cheap, but with rumours indicating some positive news for those at Anfield, Minteh could be on his way to Liverpool sooner rather than later.

As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, Liverpool are now readying a third offer to sign Minteh from Brighton. The Seagulls have already rejected bids in the region of £50m and £60m rejected, but are set to return to the negotiating table as the Sussex club continue to demand £70m.

What should help is that Minteh has reportedly made it clear to Brighton that he wants to join Liverpool, demanding a departure in the coming week. Whether that pushes the club to lower their asking price and meet Liverpool in the middle remains to be seen, though.

Dubbed “extremely fast” by Liverpool journalist Bence Bocsak, Minteh would finally hand Andoni Iraola the profile of winger that he’s been after all summer. With time running out, though, the Reds must spend big.
