Arsenal soar into race for Champions League star who Thierry Henry called “unstoppable”

Arsenal have now entered contention to sign a Champions League star, who has been impressing Thierry Henry with his performances this season.

Indeed, the Gunners are looking to add a new winger to their ranks, even though they appear to be pretty well-stocked out wide on the face of it, with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Christos Tzolis, Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke and Max Dowman to choose from.

However, despite having plenty of attacking depth, Mikel Arteta‘s side crashed out of the EFL Cup against Fleetwood Town on Tuesday night, drawing 1-1 in regular time before falling to a 5-3 defeat on penalties.

It was a night to forget for Max Dowman, who was shown a red card with around five minutes remaining in the second half, and Arteta appeared to be frustrated with the teenager.

In fairness, while the north Londoners should still have had more than enough quality to defeat a League Two side, Arteta did play a heavily rotated side, and the Spaniard will be hoping it was just a freak result.

However, the result perhaps indicates that greater strength in depth is required, should the Gunners want to compete on all fronts, and they have now set out to sign a Champions League forward.

Arsenal enter contention to sign Desire Doue

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Arsenal have now entered the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain star Desire Doue, with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester City also interested in the winger, alongside Bayern Munich.

Securing Doue’s signature could be difficult, however, as PSG are now making progress in talks regarding a contract extension, and he is keen on extending his stay at the Parc des Princes.

It is no wonder the French champions are so keen to tie the 21-year-old down, as he has been in very good form this season, picking up four goals and four assists in 12 matches across all competitions.

Moreover, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry lauded his compatriot as “unstoppable” following PSG’s 4-2 victory at Manchester City in the Champions League earlier this month.

With that in mind, Doue could be a statement signing for Andrea Berta & co, but his primary position is right-winger, which is an area in which Arteta already has plenty of options, such as Saka and Dowman.
