Kacey Musgraves Launches Sex Lube, Hangs from Giant Disco Balls at Tour Kickoff

Kacey Musgraves is turning “Dry Spell” into a hands-on experience.

This week, Musgraves teamed with women’s wellness brand Medicine Mama to launch Drought Drops, a limited-edition personal lubricant inspired by her Middle of Nowhere single. The organic aloe-and water-based formula doubles as a vaginal moisturizer and, according to the company, is designed to “make a dry spell a whole lot more fun.” Musgraves put it even more simply, saying the product “keeps the dry spells away and the good times coming.” The first batch has already sold out, with the next shipment expected September 1st.

If Drought Drops brought the innuendo home, Musgraves took it to arena scale on Friday night. Kicking off her “Middle of Nowhere Tour” at Chicago’s United Center on her 38th birthday, she strapped herself onto a massive pair of mirrored disco balls and floated above the crowd while performing “Rhinestoned.” Yes, disco balls. Fan footage of the spectacle quickly began making the rounds online, with Musgraves joking from the stage, “This is what happens when nobody tells me no.”

The stunt fit neatly into an album cycle that has already had plenty of fun with sexual frustration. “Dry Spell,” released in May as the lead single from Middle of Nowhere, finds Musgraves lamenting a particularly lengthy stretch without much action, while its accompanying imagery has leaned heavily into the double entendre. The album itself has been one of the year’s standouts, landing on Consequence’s list of the 33 best albums of 2026 so far. Drought Drops now makes the joke considerably more practical — and the enormous disco balls suggest she isn’t planning to become any subtler on tour.

Friday’s Chicago show marked the official start of Musgraves’ North American arena run after an additional August 20th United Center date was canceled last month. Her birthday set pulled heavily from Middle of Nowhere, with “Everybody Wants to Be a Cowboy,” “Dry Spell,” “Back on the Wagon,” “Mexico Honey,” and the title track appearing alongside favorites including “High Horse,” “Golden Hour,” “Slow Burn,” and “Follow Your Arrow.” Midland opened the show.

The “Middle of Nowhere Tour” continues through October, with two-night stands at Madison Square Garden, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena, Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, and Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena.
