Christian Horner called Ferrari his “dream” destination in a newspaper interview. Ferrari’s response, less than 72 hours later, was an emergency media briefing to say their Team Principal isn’t going anywhere.
Horner’s comments came while promoting his new book, made in the middle of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend. Fred Vasseur didn’t hide his frustration when asked about it in Baku, saying half the questions he gets asked lately are about speculation rather than the job itself, and pointing out plainly: Horner is looking for work, that’s known to everyone, but it isn’t in his hands.
Ferrari escalated it further on Tuesday, calling a briefing specifically to shut the story down. Chief Communications Officer Maria Conti stated the position hasn’t changed: “Ferrari has made its choices already. We have full confidence in Fred Vasseur and in his team.” She added the timing was deliberate — to stop the noise from following the team into this weekend’s race in Malaysia.
It’s not the first time Vasseur’s position has faced outside speculation since joining in 2023, but this round came with an unusually direct response from the top of the company, aligned with chairman John Elkann and CEO Benedetto Vigna. Ferrari currently sit second in the Constructors’, without a podium in their last five races, but with a win apiece this year for both Leclerc and Hamilton.
