Everton’s next Romelu Lukaku could be on the way in 2027

It’s difficult to pinpoint where this current Everton side are at.

Any thoughts about relegation are a thing of the past thanks to David Moyes. This is very much supposed to be a new era with new ambition at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, but with The Friedkin Group ready to sell, there have been some understandable delays.

The summer was especially disappointing with that in mind. After steadying the ship, Moyes and co. clearly set sail for European qualification, only to be left short by wantaway owners.

The most frustrating moment arrived when Folarin Balogun arrived on Merseyside, completed a medical and still did not become an official Everton player. Instead, he packed his things, shot a glaring look towards the decision makers, and headed back to Monaco – creating a major issue for the Toffees.

Why Everton have struggled to replace Lukaku

The last truly successful striker that Everton fans were left admiring remains Romelu Lukaku. It was arguably the Toffees who got the best version of the Belgian. He was unstoppable at times, scoring 87 goals in 166 appearances for the club. No matter who arrived, it was the Lukaku show almost every week.

Since Lukaku left the club in 2017, Everton have struggled to replicate his impressive record. Richarlison remains a cult hero after his efforts to keep the club afloat, but his best campaign ended with 14 goals in all competitions. Lukaku, for context, scored 26 goals in his best campaign at the club.

Transfer flops have also come and gone. The less said about Cenk Tosun, the better, and that’s also the case for Salomon Rondon. The most recent man to step up to the plate is Thierno Barry who, to his credit, is full of potential.

The Frenchman has scored three goals in eight games this season, showing signs of his quality after a tough first campaign last time out.

With time, Barry could steal the show for Moyes’ side, but that’s where the issue starts. If Everton have European ambitions, then they must finally replace Lukaku and find a striker capable of hitting 20 goals every season.

Everton eyeing “Luis Suarez regen” for Moyes

Not many Everton fans will want to hear the name Luis Suarez, but that should be the ambition for club officials.

If the Toffees can find their own version of the former Barcelona man, then they will have a game-changer in their frontline. Just where they find that quality, that player capable of finally replacing Lukaku and replicating the ex-rival, is the big question.

According to TeamTalk, they will find it in Belgium in the form of Nicolo Tresoldi. According to reports, Everton are eyeing a move for Tresoldi and very much admire his quality.

The German also has interest from Champions League clubs, but that would simply make it all the more impressive if Everton snapped up his signature in 2027.

It’s easy to see why the Toffees are interested, too. Tresoldi has already scored eight goals in 10 games so far this season, making a clinical start to the campaign, and that follows 13 goals last year. This is a player on the rise and improving every week at just 22 years old.

At this stage of his career, Tresoldi is even on course to outperform Lukaku in Belgium. Whether he will get the chance to do the same in the Premier League is the big question.

Dubbed a “Suarez regen” by scout Jacek Kulig, the German would be a major upgrade on Barry and could fire Everton into the European places.

With Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Tyrique George and Jack Grealish all forming an impressive foundation of creativity at the Hill Dickinson, Moyes desperately needs the final piece to his attacking puzzle if he is to book in that European tour.
