Dive Brief:

  • Biscoff owner Lotus Bakeries said it will spend 500 million euro, or approximately $577 million, to expand global production over the next five years in markets including the U.S.
  • The company will make a “substantial investment” for a new production hall at its facility in Mebane, North Carolina, the company said in its half-year results. The funding follows a 2025 investment in the plant for spreads production and bottling.
  • Lotus said the investment program is the largest in its history. The company is also adding production halls to facilities in Thailand and in Belgium, the latter of which is set to become the largest single-product cookie production site in Europe.

Dive Insight:

Once best known as a snack served on airlines, Lotus says Biscoff is now the fastest-growing brand across the cookies and spreads categories in the U.S., with household penetration now exceeding 10%.

Biscoff has aggressively moved to expand its reach through new partnerships, linking with cookie giant Mondelēz on distributing the brand in India and collaborating on innovation in Europe. The two recently extended their partnership to ice cream, bringing the brand into new formats.

The brand also got another major boost this year from TikTok, becoming the center of a widely shared online recipe where consumers mix Biscoffs and Greek yogurt to create a Japanese-inspired cheesecake.

Biscoff’s volume and revenue increased by more than 20% in the first half of 2026, the company reported. The sales momentum is fueling Lotus’ ambitions to propel Biscoff into the third-largest cookie brand in the world behind Oreo and Chips Ahoy!

“The exceptional journey of Biscoff over the past years makes us even more determined to realise our ambition of building it into the world’s third-largest cookie brand,” Jan Boone, CEO of Lotus Bakeries, said in a statement. “Every day, I see how Biscoff is becoming more and more a global love brand, embraced across generations and gaining particular traction among younger, digitally native consumers, including Gen Z.”

As Biscoff accelerates growth across global markets, Lotus is looking for new opportunities in Latin America. The company said it is engaged in discussions with Mondelēz to develop a business model that would allow Biscoff to expand in Brazil, Latin America’s largest market.

“To achieve our ambition of building Biscoff into the world’s third-largest cookie brand, we must capture the momentum in all major markets globally,” Boone added. “To support this, we invest continuously in our commercial organisations and sales offices and we invest boldly in the capacity needed to turn this ambition into reality.”
