Nottingham Forest are eyeing a move for Robert Sanchez, with Chelsea putting the goalkeeper up for sale after signing Emiliano Martinez.
Matz Sels has been Forest’s first-choice goalkeeper so far this season, starting both Premier League matches, but the Belgian is yet to keep a clean sheet, most recently conceding two in the draw against Liverpool at Anfield, and he could be at the tail end of his career at 34-years-old.
Sanchez, on the other hand, is still only 28, and the Spaniard is very experienced in the Premier League, keeping 49 clean sheets in 171 matches in the competition, across spells with Brighton & Hove Albion and Chelsea.
35 of those appearances came last season, with the three-cap Spain international holding down a consistent place in the side, and he was one of just seven goalkeepers to finish the campaign in the positives in terms of goals prevented.

Former interim Chelsea manager Calum McFarlane was full of praise for the former Brighton man for his performance in the 1-0 FA Cup semi-final victory against Leeds United too, saying: “Robert Sanchez’s saves were massive for us. We haven’t kept enough clean sheets recently, so I’m really pleased for the whole team, especially the back line and Rob to get that today.
“That’s Rob Sanchez at his best. That’s what we expect from him. That’s what he’s capable of doing. He’s one of the best in the world in those moments, and thankfully for as he delivered today.”
The Chelsea goalkeeper made three saves, including two from inside the box, to keep Daniel Farke’s side at bay, while he also displayed his ability in possession by completing eight long balls.
As such, even though the 28-year-old has made a poor start to the campaign, making an error leading to a goal in his side’s 3-2 victory against Fulham at Craven Cottage, he could be a solid signing for the Tricky Trees, and there are encouraging signs that a deal could be possible.
Robert Sanchez keen on Nottingham Forest move
According to a report from Football Insider, Nottingham Forest are considering a late move for the Spanish shot-stopper, who rakes in £60,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge.
Sanchez has been made available by Chelsea, after they completed the signing of Martinez, and he would be open to a move to the City Ground ahead of the transfer deadline on Tuesday at 11pm.
Consequently, a deadline-busting move could be on the cards, with the former Forest Green Rovers man entering Oliver Glasner‘s side’s thinking after they discovered Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson would not be available.
