Man City in talks to sign £60m star with same agent as O’Reilly
Manchester City are now in active talks to sign Liverpool star Cody Gakpo, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed.
Tottenham Hotspur have been in hot pursuit of the Dutchman, but Man City are lining up a shock hijack, as they set out to bring in a new forward, with Savinho and Omar Marmoush widely reported to be on the verge of leaving.
Gakpo scored for Liverpool in their opening Premier League game, a 2-2 draw against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, and Virgil van Dijk has previously lauded his teammate for his consistency, saying: “Cody is an outstanding professional with exceptional qualities and he is showing it on a consistent basis.
“That’s the most difficult part of football, doing it every couple of days. Cody is definitely doing that.”
Moreover, the winger is also capable of contributing at the opposite end of the pitch, making a number of important defensive contributions against the Magpies.
The former PSV Eindhoven man hasn’t always set the world alight since moving to Anfield, but he is now tried and tested in the Premier League, and has remained a fairly reliable source of goals and assists throughout his time with the Reds.

Savinho, on the other hand, has struggled to hold down a consistent place in City’s starting XI, scoring just one goal in 24 Premier League matches last season, whereas Marmoush bagged three goals in 21 outings.
As such, the Liverpool forward, who has the same agent as Nico O’Reilly, could be an upgrade on Enzo Maresca‘s current options, and the reigning FA Cup and EFL Cup winners have entered negotiations.
Man City in “active talks” to sign Cody Gakpo
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Gakpo agreed terms for a move to Spurs back in July, but Roberto De Zerbi’s side are yet to make a breakthrough, with Liverpool holding out for around £60m, and Man City have swooped in.
In fact, City have entered “active talks” with the Netherlands international’s representatives, as they look to convince him to move to the Etihad Stadium, but he is yet to make a decision.
Andoni Iraola’s side will only offload the 27-year-old if they sign two left-wingers before the September 1st deadline, and bringing in Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola is regarded as a priority.
Much like Marmoush, Gakpo is capable of playing through the middle as a centre-forward or out wide, which means he could be an ideal replacement for the Egyptian, but it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be willing to strengthen a rival club.
