How Rangers can seal an even better signing than Min-su Kim for McInnes

Glasgow Rangers know that they need to add more quality to their options in the wide areas after a disappointing start to the Scottish Premiership season.

The Light Blues have picked up one point from their first two matches in the division and have already been knocked out of the Europa League qualifiers.

They have reacted to their underwhelming start by swooping to agree a deal for Girona winger Min-su Kim for a fee in the region of £8.5m to bolster their attack.

The South Korean forward looks set to be the latest addition to Derek McInnes‘ squad in the coming days, but he may not be the last one to come through the door.

Why Rangers still need another winger after Min-su Kim

Kim looks to be an exciting signing for the Scottish giants after he produced six goals and four assists in 40 matches in LaLiga 2 on loan at Andorra in the 2025/26 campaign.

The 20-year-old talent will be hoping to bring his ability to score and create goals to Ibrox to give McInnes’ side the lift that they need at the top end of the pitch, particularly in the Premiership.

However, Kim does not solve all of the club’s remaining problems in the wide areas, as he is a right-footed winger who predominantly plays on the left side, cutting in on his favoured foot.

Daisuke Yakota would remain the only senior winger in the squad who is naturally left-footed and can play on the right to offer variety on that side of the pitch, which means that the Gers could lack balance if he is unavailable or substituted.

Therefore, the Light Blues still need to be in the market to add another left-footed forward to the group before the window slams shut at the start of next month.

Rangers in talks to land better signing than Kim

The club, despite already making plenty of additions to the squad, are already said to be looking at a left-footed star, and he would be an even better signing than Kim.

According to the Daily Record, Glasgow Rangers are interested in a deal to bring Vaclav Cerny back to Ibrox for a second spell in Scotland this summer.

The report claims that the Light Blues have opened talks with Besiktas over a move for the Czechia international and that discussions remain ongoing between the two clubs.

It adds that a deal is unlikely, due to the potential finances involved in the fee and wages, but the Gers are in talks to see if they can make it work before next month’s deadline.

The Turkish giants valued the forward at around £8.5m earlier this summer and it remains to be seen whether or not Rangers can get them to lower their valuation of the left-footed star.

If the club can work out a way to bring him back to Ibrox before the deadline, Cerny would arrive in Glasgow as an even better addition to the squad than Kim, as he is a proven Premiership performer who could hit the ground running.

The 28-year-old attacker also outperformed the South Korean winger at league level in the 2025/26 campaign, as he produced three more goal contributions in ten fewer appearances in the Super Lig than Kim managed in LaLiga 2 for Andorra.

On top of outperforming the Girona youngster last season, Cerny also proved his quality in Scotland during his season on loan at Rangers from Wolfsburg in the 2024/25 campaign.

The left-footed star racked up 18 goals and nine assists in all competitions for the Scottish giants, including 12 goals and four assists in the Premiership, which shows that he knows how to deliver consistently in a Rangers shirt.

Kim, meanwhile, is a young talent who has only played one season of regular first-team football and is yet to deliver more than six goals or four assists in a single campaign.

Cerny, therefore, looks like he would be more likely to be a consistent difference-maker at the top end of the pitch for McInnes, given his experience, the quality he has shown at Besiktas, and his spell at Rangers a couple of seasons ago.

That is why the Gers should stump up the cash to sign him after closing a deal for Kim, as the Light Blues would then have a mix of potential and proven quality in the wide areas.
