Man Utd gifted green light to sign Myles Lewis-Skelly as fresh contact made

Just when frustration was beginning to build at Old Trafford, Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in pursuit of Myles Lewis-Skelly.

The Red Devils have been chasing a left-back since the start of the summer and whilst Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall has often been the name in the headlines, Lewis-Skelly is now one to watch.

The Arsenal star looks to be falling victim to the Gunners’ impressive transfer business, with his midfield role expected to be taken up by Bruno Guimaraes.

The young England international was handed hope of an Arsenal future at the end of last season when he emerged from the bench to take a shock role next to Declan Rice. A new contract then arrived to boost those hopes even more, only for Guimaraes to arrive months later.

After spending the majority of last season watching from the reserves, the versatile left-back cannot waste another campaign – allowing Man United to take full advantage.

Those at Old Trafford would likely use Lewis-Skelly as a left-back, as they look to welcome a long-term replacement for Luke Shaw. A midfield role may not be entirely off the table, however. It’s well-documented that INEOS are still searching for a third addition in that department.

Arsenal’s trash can quickly become the ultimate treasure at Old Trafford, especially if the 19-year-old reaches his full potential.

As reported by Football London’s Bobby Vincent, Man United have now been offered the chance to sign Lewis-Skelly after a fresh round of talks.

Arsenal are now open to the sale and United could take full advantage of that green light. Their interest is not new, but fresh contact was made with the Red Devils following Guimaraes’ recent arrival in North London.

That would suggest that Lewis-Skelly has become somewhat surplus to requirements at the Emirates, leaving a Premier League rival to come swooping in.

As ever, Man United are not the only side interested. Chelsea have also been offered the same chance to sign the teenage star and could ignite a battle with the Red Devils before the end of the month.

Previously described as “one of the best youngsters in the world” by Fabrizio Romano, Lewis-Skelly’s stock certainly increased after his midfield cameos last season and that sparked impressive praise from ex-Arsenal defender Matt Upson, who dubbed the Englishman ‘special’.

“He has a clear ability to rationalise things and deliver at every single level. It’s exactly why he has already slipped into international football. You’ve got to have something a little bit special to be able to do that at his age.

“He has an amazing attitude and belief system, while also being able to absorb information. He is also just a genuinely nice person who wants to do well for himself and see the club doing well.

The race is now on for his signature, as Man United look to land a major coup and get one over on their Premier League rivals.
