7 Indian batters with centuries in all three formats: Shreyas Iyer latest addition

Shreyas Iyer has entered an exclusive club in Indian cricket. The India captain’s sensational unbeaten 102 against West Indies in the first T20I in Lucknow on October 6 completed a rare international milestone – he became the seventh Indian batter to score a century in all three formats of the game.

Iyer’s achievement came at a perfect time. India had slipped to 35/2 while chasing 172, but the right-hander completely changed the momentum with a breathtaking counterattack. He finished unbeaten on 102 from just 43 balls, hitting 10 fours and 6 sixes, as India raced to 172/2 in only 14.4 overs.

The century was Iyer’s first in T20Is and completed a set that already included a Test hundred and multiple ODI centuries. He now joins six other Indian men who have achieved the same feat.

7 Indian male cricketers to score centuries across formats

1. Suresh Raina – The first Indian to achieve the feat

Suresh Raina was the first Indian male batter to score centuries in all three international formats.

Raina’s Test century came against Sri Lanka in 2010, when he scored 120 on debut. He had already established himself as a prolific ODI batter, while his ability to attack in T20 cricket made him one of India’s most valuable white-ball players of his generation.

He eventually completed the rare treble with a T20I century against South Africa in 2010.

Raina finished his international career with one Test hundred, five ODI hundreds and one T20I century.

2. Rohit Sharma – India’s T20I century king

Rohit Sharma took the achievement to another level.

The former India captain has been one of the most prolific limited-overs batters in cricket history and is the only Indian with five T20I centuries. He also accumulated 12 Test hundreds and 32 ODI centuries during his international career.

Rohit’s success across formats was built around his ability to dominate bowling attacks without completely changing his natural style. His timing, six-hitting and extraordinary ability to construct huge innings made him one of the defining batters of modern cricket.

3. Virat Kohli – Consistency across generations

Virat Kohli’s inclusion on the list comes as little surprise.

The former India captain has produced hundreds in all three formats and remains one of the greatest ODI batters ever. Kohli has 30 Test centuries and 51 ODI hundreds, while his lone T20I century came against Afghanistan in the 2022 Asia Cup.

His ability to adapt his game according to the format has been one of the biggest reasons behind his longevity.
Kohli’s T20I century was particularly memorable because it ended a long wait for his first hundred in the shortest format.

4. KL Rahul – A versatile modern batter

KL Rahul has also established himself as one of India’s most adaptable batters.

The Karnataka-born batter has centuries across Tests, ODIs and T20Is, demonstrating his ability to succeed at different positions and under different demands.

Rahul has nine Test centuries, seven ODI centuries and two T20I hundreds.

His technique and ability to switch gears have allowed him to operate as an opener, middle-order batter and wicketkeeper across formats.

5. Shubman Gill – The new generation star

Shubman Gill is another member of the elite group and arguably has plenty of time to climb much higher on the list.

Gill has already scored centuries in Tests, ODIs and T20Is. His first T20I century came against New Zealand in 2023, when he smashed an unbeaten 126.

His Test and ODI numbers have also continued to grow rapidly. Gill has become an important part of India’s next generation and has already taken on significant leadership responsibility.

With years of international cricket potentially still ahead of him, his all-format century tally could increase substantially.

6. Yashasvi Jaiswal – India’s young sensation

Yashasvi Jaiswal became the sixth Indian male batter to achieve the milestone before Iyer joined the club.

Jaiswal has quickly transformed himself from a promising youngster into one of India’s most exciting all-format batters. His aggressive approach is particularly effective in Test cricket, where he has already produced multiple big hundreds.

His ability to score quickly without sacrificing his technique has made him one of the players expected to define India’s batting future.

7. Shreyas Iyer – The new entrant

Shreyas Iyer is now the newest member of the club.

His journey to this milestone has been particularly interesting because his international career has largely been associated with India’s middle order in white-ball cricket.

Iyer’s first international century came in Test cricket against New Zealand in Kanpur in 2021, when he scored 105 on debut. He later established himself as a dependable ODI batter, with his ability to attack spin and pace making him an important middle-order option. His ODI tally now includes five centuries.

But the T20I century had remained elusive.

That changed dramatically in Lucknow.

India lost Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson early in the chase, leaving Iyer at the crease with the score on 35/2. Instead of allowing West Indies to build pressure, he gradually took control before exploding in the latter stages.

Iyer reached his century in just 42 balls and finished with 102 not out from 43 deliveries. His unbeaten 137-run partnership with Ishan Kishan turned what could have been a tricky chase into a comfortable victory.

The innings also made Iyer only the third Indian captain to score a T20I century, after Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, according to the latest statistical records.
