Bridget Fonda was everywhere in the 1990s, headlining hit thrillers and dramas that made her one of the decade’s most in-demand leading ladies. Then she walked away from the screen completely, trading movie premieres for a quiet private life far from the cameras. Lately, after years out of the public eye, the Single White Female star has been turning up in rare outings that have fans curious all over again.

Here’s everything to know about where she is today.

Who Is Bridget Fonda?

Fonda is the former actress who became a fixture of ’90s cinema before stepping away from the industry in the early 2000s. She spent roughly 15 years building a résumé packed with thrillers, comedies, and dramas, earning a reputation as one of her generation’s most versatile stars. Since retiring, she has kept almost entirely to herself, which is exactly why each new sighting of her makes headlines.

Bridget Fonda’s Famous Family

Hollywood runs in the family. Fonda is the daughter of Easy Rider icon Peter Fonda, the niece of two-time Oscar winner Jane Fonda, and the granddaughter of screen legend Henry Fonda, who starred in classics like 12 Angry Men and The Grapes of Wrath. Despite that pedigree, she was determined to make it on her own terms, and she did, carving out a career that stood apart from her famous last name.

Bridget Fonda’s Movies

Her filmography is a tour through ’90s movie history. She landed an early role in The Godfather Part III in 1990 and scored a Golden Globe nomination for the British drama Scandal, then broke out as the terrorized roommate in the psychological thriller Single White Female in 1992. She went on to star in the grunge-era romance Singles, the action remake Point of No Return, and Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown in 1997, where she played scene-stealing surfer girl Melanie Ralston. Her final credited role came in 2002, and she has not acted since.

Where Is Bridget Fonda Now?

These days, Fonda lives far from the spotlight. She married Oscar-nominated composer Danny Elfman in 2003, and the intensely private couple has stayed clear of Hollywood ever since while raising their son, Oliver Elfman. When photographers once asked whether she would ever go back to acting, Fonda didn’t hesitate. She gave a firm “no.”

“It’s too nice being a civilian,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

More recently, Fonda has resurfaced in a handful of rare public outings, looking noticeably different after a reported 100-pound weight loss. Through it all, her stance has not changed. She is happy out of the spotlight, and she has no plans to return to it.
