WATCH: Catch of the season! Caoimhe Bray’s boundary brilliance steals the show in Sydney Sixers’ victory over Sydney Thunder | WBBL|12

Sydney Sixers youngster Caoimhe Bray produced a stunning piece of fielding to grab the spotlight during her team’s thrilling victory over Sydney Thunder in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL|12). The boundary effort, which helped complete the dismissal of Jemma Barsby, quickly became one of the standout moments of the contest at North Sydney Oval on Sunday, November 8.

Caoimhe Bray’s brilliant boundary effort removes Jemma Barsby

The moment arrived during the 11th over of Sydney Thunder’s run chase. Ashleigh Gardner delivered an off-break on a length around middle stump, and Barsby attempted to slog the ball towards deep mid-wicket.

However, the shot did not produce the desired result. Bray was involved in the boundary catch, providing the crucial assistance that allowed Lauren Cheatle to complete the dismissal.

Barsby departed for a golden duck after facing just one delivery, leaving Thunder with another wicket to rebuild around. The dismissal underlined how important alertness and teamwork can be in the field, particularly when batters are attempting to clear the ropes under pressure.

Bray’s contribution was not limited to her fielding. The young all-rounder also made a significant impact with the ball, finishing with four wickets for 28 runs in her four overs.

Earlier, Sydney Sixers posted an imposing 162/2 in their allotted 16 overs after rain reduced the contest.

Captain Gardner delivered an explosive innings, scoring 64 not out off just 25 balls. Her knock included five fours and five sixes, allowing the Sixers to accelerate dramatically during the closing stages.

Veteran all-rounder Ellyse Perry provided excellent support, remaining unbeaten on 59 from 41 deliveries. Perry struck 11 boundaries and helped build a formidable total alongside Gardner, whose aggressive approach put the Thunder bowlers under enormous pressure.

The pair combined for a 97-run partnership off just 37 deliveries, giving the Sixers the momentum they needed heading into the second innings.

Bray leads Sixers’ bowling attack

Sydney Thunder began their chase positively but struggled to maintain the required scoring rate as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Bray made an immediate impact by dismissing Thunder captain Phoebe Litchfield for eight before removing Georgia Voll for the same score. She later accounted for Nadine de Klerk, who scored 30, and Laura Harris, who smashed 35 off just 10 deliveries.

Sarah Coyte supported Bray with two wickets, while Gardner also claimed two scalps as Thunder were bowled out for 158 in 15.3 overs.

Despite the late hitting, Sydney Thunder fell nine runs short of the revised DLS target of 168, handing the Sixers a hard-fought victory.
