Team India’s playing XI for the first T20I vs West Indies – Predicted

After the thrilling ODI series, the focus now turns to T20I cricket as India and West Indies prepare to begin their five-match series at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. India will look to build on their recent strong performances, while the West Indies will aim to maintain the confidence gained from their thrilling finish to the ODI series.
With both sides packed with match-winners, the opening contest promises to be an exciting battle between India’s depth and the Caribbean team’s aggressive batting approach.
India to stick with a strong batting combination
India are expected to field a deep batting lineup, with Abhishek Sharma likely to open alongside Sanju Samson. Ishan Kishan could follow in the order, while captain Shreyas Iyer is expected to take charge of the middle overs.
Samson’s returns during the Asian Games were underwhelming, but his back-to-back fifties against Afghanistan should work in his favour. He is therefore likely to retain his place in the XI for the series opener. This also means that Vaibhav Suryavanshi might have to wait for his oppurtunity.
Nitish Kumar Reddy could add balance as the additional all-round option. Axar Patel is also expected to feature, giving India another dependable left-arm spin option and useful batting depth.
Arshdeep Singh likely to return to India’s pace attack
India could make a change to their bowling combination after using an extra batter in the Asian Games. Suryavanshi’s inclusion over Arshdeep Singh worked effectively on the slower Nisshin surfaces, but conditions in Lucknow could prompt India to return to a more conventional setup.
Arshdeep is expected to spearhead the pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who is rested. The spin department could also see a change. Kuldeep Yadav is in contention to replace Ravi Bishnoi as India’s primary wrist-spinner after Bishnoi endured a difficult outing in the Asian Games final against Pakistan.
