Spurs now in talks to renew contract of player De Zerbi loves with Bayern working on deal

There have been very few positive signs for Tottenham Hotspur during the early stages of the Premier League season, as they sit inside the relegation zone after six games, having failed to get a win on the board.

As you’d expect, the pressure is now mounting on Roberto De Zerbi, with the Italian not exactly maintaining a stellar record since replacing Igor Tudor, despite guiding his side to Premier League survival last season.

Most recently, however, Spurs were able to grind out a point in their trip to Old Trafford, courtesy of a stoppage-time equaliser from Dominic Solanke, which cancelled out Bryan Mbeumo’s opener around 15 minutes prior.

De Zerbi will be hoping his side can kick on, having found the net in their last two matches, after failing to do so in their opening four Premier League games, with a lack of cutting edge in the final third proving to be an issue.

When asked whether he has considered calling upon youngster Luca Williams-Barnett, who operates in an attacking midfield role, the Tottenham boss said: “I’m thinking. I’m thinking, because he’s another special player. But he’s very young, and the management of the very, very young players is very complicated.

“Special talent. Special personality also, because he’s arrogant, but arrogant good for football because you have to believe in yourself. Not forgetting to be humble. Humility but believe in yourself, and the right example is Luca.”

The 18-year-old is yet to make an appearance in the Premier League this season, but he is continuing to attract interest from elsewhere, with two European giants now in the race for his signature.

According to a report from Football Insider, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are now working on deals to sign Williams-Barnett, which will be concerning for Spurs, as they are very keen for the starlet to remain at the club.

As such, talks have now been opened regarding a new contract, and the Lilywhites have been making progress, as they bid to ward off the growing interest from elsewhere.

Despite not featuring in the Premier League, the teenager was brought on as a late substitute in the 5-1 EFL Cup victory against Charlton Athletic, and he has maintained a stellar record at youth level, picking up eight goals and seven assists in 12 matches for the U21 side.

Conor Gallagher didn’t pull up any trees against Man United last time out, missing a big chance before he was replaced by James Maddison, and if he continues to struggle, Williams-Barnett could be an exciting replacement in the starting XI.
