Sleep Token’s 2023 album Take Me Back to Eden has just been certified platinum in the US, signifying one million equivalent units sold, a rare feat for a hard rock or metal band these days.
The next most recent album in the metal world to have gone platinum is Metallica’s 2016 release Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, which was certified in 2017.
Take Me Back to Eden, the mysterious UK band’s breakthrough album, was their final release of three LPs on their original home label of Spinefarm before their move to major record label RCA for 2025’s Even in Arcadia. It marks the first-ever platinum album for Spinefarm.
On Take Me Back to Eden, Sleep Token fully committed to their unique sound combining progressive metal with pop, contemporary R&B, and alternative music, ultimately proving successful as it accrued over 2 billion global streams over its lifetime and was the most streamed metal album on Spotify in 2023. The band saw monthly listeners skyrocket from around 300,000 in the initial wake of the album’s release to well over 1.5 million, numbers Sleep Token have maintained to this day.

It was largely off of the back of the success of Take Me Back to Eden that Sleep Token was able to embark on a 16-date headlining arena tour of the US on the cycle for their next album.
Earlier this year, Sleep Token’s latest album, Even in Arcadia, was certified gold for 500,000 equivalent units sold, showing that the band’s commercial dominance is still very much ongoing. The band surprise released an instrumental version of Even in Arcadia in May, with a vinyl edition set to arrive on August 7th (pre-order here).
