๐๏ธDuring the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz found himself at the center of a controversial incident with Oscar Piastri after repeatedly missing blue flags. On Lap 37, Sainz passed four blue flag panels while Piastri, who was lapping him, was already becoming frustrated, even saying over team radio: “Come on, there’s plenty of blues.” At the start of Lap 38, Sainz’s engineer reminded him once again: “Blue flag for Piastri.”
๐ While battling Fernando Alonso for position, Sainz appeared to lose track of the approaching McLaren. Even after passing another four flashing blue flag panels, he continued racing, was overtaken by Alonso, and then squeezed Piastri after Turn 2. The two drivers made wheel-to-wheel contact, leaving Piastri furious over the radio. Sainz, however, was left confused, responding: “I had no idea Piastri was there. No idea.”
