Russell’s Silence Was VERY Telling 😬
🏎️ The 2026 Dutch Grand Prix took a controversial turn on Lap 65 when Mercedes ordered George Russell to let Kimi Antonelli through. Russell was running P2 on older hard tyres, while Antonelli had just pitted for fresh soft tyres during the Virtual Safety Car (VSC). With Antonelli closing in, Mercedes instructed Russell to “invert into Turn 1,” effectively handing P2 to his teammate.
⚔️ The decision was especially significant for the Formula 1 championship battle. Russell entered the final laps with worn tyres and then had to defend against the Ferrari drivers on fresher soft tyres. Despite the pressure, George Russell managed to hold onto P3 with an impressive defensive drive, while Antonelli continued ahead of him.
😶 After the race, Russell’s radio silence caught attention. His engineer apologized for making the final laps so difficult, before Toto Wolff praised Russell’s defending over the team radio. Russell simply replied “thanks” and then gave no response when Toto said he didn’t think that level of defending was possible.
