Russell Martin reacts as fans express their frustration with Leicester City now winless in their opening three league games.

Saturday saw them play out a goalless draw away at MK Dons, Leicester missing some big chances, and had some hit the woodwork.

The Foxes are down to 20th with 2 points at this very early stage of the season, a draw with Notts County (1-1), and the 0-0 draw at MK Dons, but did fall to a 2-1 defeat at home to Burton.

Russell Martin told the club’s media: “I’m disappointed we don’t win, because we deserved to. It was the best performance we’ve had. The only thing we’re missing is a goal and if we score, I think everyone goes away thinking it’s an amazing performance.

“It’s a goal away from being an incredible performance, because some of the football, the amount of chances we created, it was so dominant. It was attack versus defence for so long in the second half and we’re just missing that last bit, that last touch into the goal, that last moment of quality.

“But the team ran against a team who are going to be up there come the end of the season. We keep a clean sheet, they fought and ran so hard for each other, the energy was great, the fans were brilliant during the game.

“But then we have to put the finishing touch on it. We built on Tuesday, even better today, created so much, but we have to score, so it’s the only frustrating bit for me.

“You play this game 10 times, you’ll win nine. If you end up with that dominance, in terms of territory and shots and entries into the box… we just have to keep on with the process and trust that end product will come, and when it does, we’ll have a lot of fun.

“The team was fast, it was aggressive. We played with purpose, played with energy, played with connection, [with] so many young guys on the pitch doing brilliant things.

“I’m going to celebrate that all season with the young ones, the Academy guys, the guys we’ve got on loan. They’ll keep learning and they’ll get better and better.

“Luke Thomas has been immense in the last two games playing out of position, and Sammy and Louis have been incredible, two kids dominating the middle of the pitch. JJ (Joseph), fantastic.

“Will Alves comes on and had a huge impact. Jakub [Stolarczyk] in goal, by the way, in the last two games, has been immense. I just named five or six Academy guys and they are giving everything they possibly can for this Football Club, to bring it back to where we want it, which we all are.

“Hopefully people feel as excited as I do about the team and what direction it’s going to go in. Also, the amount of change, and it’s not an excuse, but the energy at this Club for a couple of years has been really difficult, which is not an overnight theme, but there’s building blocks from Tuesday and today.”

MK Dons boss Paul Warne said, as per MK Citizen: “We did everything we could to stop them but didn’t do enough to score the other end.

“Leicester are a really good team, they pull you apart, they ask questions. None of their shots were too much to concern ourselves with, mostly outside of the box, but I just wish we had a bit more personality on the ball when we got it back.

“In games like these you might nick one on the counter, which we nearly did on a couple of occasions, or from set-pieces. Today I think our set-pieces let us down.

“The effort levels cannot be questioned. Will we be better in some games? Yes, will we be better on set-pieces, I hope so. We played against a good team, we were good in patches but we’re still a work in progress. Hopefully we’ll keep developing.”Still seeking their first win of the season, having been picked up points against Oxford United and Huddersfield Town before Saturday’s tie with Leicester, Warne said each game has produced very different problems to solve from his side’s perspective and while he admitted the late Oxford equaliser still stings, the return to League One has been satisfactory so far.

“They has been three very different draws. We should have won at Oxford, Huddersfield was a game of two halves and today was a ‘bend, don’t break’ performance.

“Leicester will have an amazing season and I expect us to as well. When you’re not the better team, don’t lose. The lads put their bodies on the line, but I’m disappointed we didn’t ask more of them.

“We’ve come up from League Two, we’ve played two teams who have come down from the Championship and a real contender at this level. We’ve matched at times, but I’m greedy and I want to be the best in the league and smoke teams.

“I think if we’d have held on at Oxford, we’d have five points and I’d be happy with that. Having three from three isn’t ideal but we haven’t lost.”
