Ross Wilson says Newcastle have an “exciting” teenager ready to explode
Newcastle will attempt to continue their promising start when Bournemouth visit St James’ Park on Saturday lunchtime.
Matthias Jaissle’s side have taken four points from their opening two Premier League games and quickly embraced his demands, with only a late penalty denying them victory against Liverpool in a 2-2 opening draw.
They followed that disappointment with a 2-0 victory at Tottenham, where Anthony Elanga and Yoane Wissa scored the goals.
Newcastle’s speed and aggressive pressing repeatedly forced Tottenham into mistakes, offering an early glimpse of Jaissle’s intended style of play.
Another victory this weekend would maintain that momentum and send Newcastle into the next run of fixtures with belief. Bournemouth should not be underestimated, despite taking only one point from their first two league games.
Rose’s side lost narrowly to Man City before drawing with Everton, and their recent record against Newcastle is strong.
The Cherries are unbeaten in the last eight league meetings between the teams and won 2-1 on their previous visit to St James’ Park in April.

Saturday’s game will also bring together two German coaches with links to the Red Bull system.
Jaissle previously managed Red Bull Salzburg, while Rose has worked at Salzburg and RB Leipzig. Both demand energy, direct attacking football and organised pressing, which could produce an entertaining contest.
Newcastle could also hand a debut to deadline day arrival Matias Fernandez-Pardo following his move from Lille.
While Fernandez-Pardo has been signed to make an immediate difference, Newcastle have also continued planning for the future.
The club have now confirmed the arrival of 18-year-old Guinea midfielder Ousmane Diabaté from Gençlerbirliği.
Ross Wilson raves over Ousmane Diabate in Newcastle statement
Diabaté will not join Jaissle’s senior squad immediately, and has returned to the Turkish club on loan for the remainder of the season, allowing him to continue playing and developing away from the Premier League spotlight.
He came through Académie SOAR in Guinea before moving to Turkey in December 2025. His rapid progress was rewarded with a senior international debut against Northern Ireland in June.
Newcastle sporting director Ross Wilson has lavished praise on the teenager, claiming he has a big future.
“We’re very pleased to welcome Ousmane to Newcastle United,” said Wilson in an official statement.
“He’s an exciting talent who has already shown real potential, progressing through a strong programme in Guinea before gaining valuable senior experience in Turkey.
“He’s been on the radar of a number of clubs, so we’re delighted he sees his future here with us – credit to our scouting team for identifying him early and working hard to get the deal done. It was a pleasure to meet him recently. We are following his progress closely.
“His exposure to first-team football at such a young age, along with his recent international debut, shows the trajectory he’s on.
“Going back to Gençlerbirliği will give him the chance to continue the development he’s already shown while remaining firmly within our long-term plans.”
Newcastle can monitor Diabaté’s progress in Turkey before deciding how quickly to introduce him next summer.
For now, Jaissle’s attention is on Bournemouth, but the African sensation represents an investment designed to benefit the club far beyond this season.
