Ricciardo Returned to the Corner That Broke His Wrist 🥲

🏎️ At the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo crashed during FP2 after coming across Oscar Piastri’s crashed McLaren at Turn 3. Ricciardo reacted too late and hit the wall while trying to avoid Piastri. Although the impact looked relatively light, Ricciardo broke his left wrist in the crash, forcing him to miss the rest of the Dutch Grand Prix and several Formula 1 races.

💔 Ricciardo immediately realized something was wrong, telling his engineer, “Yeah, sorry, I didn’t see the McLaren,” before adding that his hand was hurting. The crash became a defining moment of the 2023 Formula 1 season for Ricciardo, as the wrist injury kept him out of action and began a difficult period in his F1 comeback.

🥲 One year later, at the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix, Ricciardo returned to Zandvoort and reunited with the marshals who had helped him after his 2023 crash at Turn 3. Ricciardo thanked them for the letter and stroopwafels they had left in his car. The following year, he even pointed toward the marshals as he drove past Turn 3 during FP1 — a small but incredibly wholesome moment between a Formula 1 driver and the people who helped him after his crash.
