Rangers need to put Ibrox flop who’s worth less than Devlin up for sale

Glasgow Rangers made some impressive additions to their squad during the summer transfer window after they brought Derek McInnes in as their new head coach.

The likes of Ivor Pandur, Dan Neil, Olwethu Makhanya, James Penrice, and Kevin Kelsy are just a few of the signings who have caught the eye since arriving at Ibrox over the summer.

Not every single signing made by the 49ers during the window has turned out exactly the way that they wanted them to, though, and it is unreasonable to expect every deal to work out.

One player who has yet to prove his worth to the Scottish Premiership giants is central midfielder Cammy Devlin, who arrived on a free transfer from Hearts.

Why Rangers already need to move on from Cammy Devlin

13 matches into the season, the Australia international’s standout moment for the Gers was when he was sent off against Jablonec for putting his studs up against a defender in an attempt to win a penalty for his side.

The former Hearts star has not looked up to the standard required of Rangers midfielders in possession, but he has offered bite and combative play off the ball, averaging 4.3 tackles and interceptions per game in the Premiership.

Devlin’s lack of quality with the ball at his feet can be an issue for the Gers when they are faced with breaking down a low block, as he does not have the technical ability to drive past players or pick out passes to create chances for his teammates.

Rangers, therefore, should already be considering a January sale of the 28-year-old midfielder because he does not align with what they should be looking for from their midfield options.

He is currently valued at around £1.6m by Transfermarkt and raking in a fee around that mark could still represent good value for the Scottish giants, given that they signed him on a free transfer in the summer.

Worth less than Devlin: Rangers must put forward up for sale

Devlin, though, is not the only player who may already need to be moved on by the club after just 13 games this season, as there is a forward in the squad who should be in his final weeks at Ibrox.

Ross McCausland returned from a loan spell with Aris Limassol over the summer and was brought back into the first-team squad by McInnes.

The Northern Ireland international, though, has rarely been called upon by the Scottish manager, featuring in one of the club’s 13 matches in all competitions so far.

During his loan stint in Cyprus, the young winger scored four goals and provided four assists in 26 appearances, but his form on loan has not been enough to earn a regular spot in the team under McInnes.

The 23-year-old attacker has scored eight goals and provided seven assists in 67 games for Rangers at first-team level in all competitions to date, but he has failed to deliver consistently at senior level.

He has never scored more than four goals or provided more than four assists in a single season for the Gers since making the breakthrough from the academy, which is why he has not been relied upon week-in-week-out.

McCausland has been an unused substitute for five of his six appearances in the matchday squad this term for the Light Blues, suggesting that McInnes does not view him as a genuine frontline option for his attack.

The Northern Irishman, who scored in his cameo against St Mirren in the League Cup, now has a Transfermarkt value that reflects his lack of involvement in the first-team.

At the time of writing (06/10/2026), the Ibrox academy graduate is valued at only £635,000 by Transfermarkt, which means that he is worth even less than summer flop Cammy Devlin.

He had been worth £1.3m in 2024, after first breaking into the Gers team, but his struggles since then have resulted in his value declining to where it currently is.

Now, McInnes should put the attacker up for sale ahead of the January transfer window because of his status within the squad as a fringe player, at best, and his value being at an all-time low.

The Gers may not get much back for his services, given his value, but it would give the winger a chance to go and revive his career elsewhere.
