Prince’s 3121 Gets Expanded Edition, Live Album, and Concert Film for 20th Anniversary
Prince’s 3121 is getting the full anniversary treatment. To celebrate the album’s 20th anniversary, NPG Records and the Prince Estate have announced an expanded reissue, a previously unreleased live album, and a concert film heading to theaters later this year. As a first taste, the unreleased vault recording “Time of Ur Life” is out now along with a live video for “Black Sweat.”
Arriving December 11th, 3121 Expanded Edition pairs Prince’s original 12-track album with 10 additional vault recordings, including acoustic versions of “The Word,” “Love,” and “Te Amo Corazón,” as well as “The Streets of Panama,” “Another Girl,” “Glass Cutter,” and “Girls In the Band.” The collection will be available digitally and in 3LP + Blu-ray and 2CD + Blu-ray configurations.

The Blu-ray captures Prince’s January 20th, 2007 performance during his Las Vegas residency, while that same show will receive a standalone release as 3121 Las Vegas Live on November 27th for Record Store Day Black Friday. Spanning more than two hours, the set moves from 3121 and Musicology material to “Purple Rain,” “Kiss,” “If I Was Your Girlfriend,” and “U Got the Look,” alongside covers including “Pass the Peas,” “Crazy,” and “Play That Funky Music.”

The performance is also coming to the silver screen. Prince: 3121 Las Vegas Concert opens for a limited theatrical run in the US and Canada beginning December 3rd, with tickets going on sale November 11th. The previously unseen 154-minute film will be presented in 4K, with Dolby Atmos available at equipped theaters.
Originally released March 21st, 2006, 3121 became Prince’s first album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and his fourth to top the chart. Following the success of Musicology, the album extended a period of renewed mainstream attention with songs including “Black Sweat,” “Te Amo Corazón,” and “Fury.”
