Preston fans boo off their side and aim chant at Paul Heckingbottom after defeat to Charlton

Preston fans boo off their side and aim a chant at manager Paul Heckingbottom after watching a 1-0 defeat to Charlton.

Karlan Grant got the only goal of the game with the result making it three wins from three league games for Nathan Jones’ side.

The Addicks are now the league leaders with three wins from three. But for Preston, they are down to 23rd, losing all three of their opening games.

Preston’s Paul Heckingbottom said, as per Sky Sports: “It was in both boxes where it went wrong.

“Until they scored we were very good. It was a horrible goal. Really poor. For the control we had, we would have liked to create more.

“When we were chasing it they got more attempts and broke on us, but that is going to happen when you go 4-2-4 and leave the space.

“I know what is missing and we have to work on it. That was the difference for me – Charlton are willing the ball into the net at the minute and finding a way. I would have taken a far worse performance and the points today.

“We had spells of control but that becomes secondary, it’s about winning.

“Everyone is gutted in there, it’s a frustrating one for us to take. You have to make things go for you, you can’t feel sorry for yourselves. You’ve got to make the ball go in the net.”

Charlton’s Nathan Jones: “Let’s not be silly – it’s three games. We have got a long way to go. We’ll enjoy an hour or two tonight and then we’ll instantly start looking at West Brom on Wednesday.

“We won’t dare to do anything, nobody wins anything yet. If I had a time machine then I’d quickly zip to May and we’d be in the Premier League, but that is not the case.

“We thoroughly deserved it. They had one chance all game, apart from that we contained them.

“We stuck to our shape and tried to believe in what we did. We were excellent, apart from needing a little more cutting edge in the second half.

“It’s not so much that we are top of the league, it’s that we’ve got nine points from three games – that is a big haul. It is the manner as well. We have gone to West Ham and had to defend really well but in the other two games we have been well worth the wins.”

Here’;s how social media users reacted after Preston fans boo off their side and aim chant at Paul Heckingbottom following a 1-0 defeat to Charlton…

@Darnz98: I’ve been Hecky’s biggest defender but today was the nail in the coffin. Another manager can get more out of these. Let’s move on before this gets MESSY.

@NorthEnd1978:
HECKY OUT!
Their keeper has had nothing to do all afternoon.
We’re going down if he stays

@RibchesterJosh: No matter if your Hecky in or out you cannot simply have a manager who has lost his players. You can see it at full time they all look deflated. There’s no point in making the situation worse we need a new face #pnefc

@farrington89996:
Hecky replacements
Throwing some names out there #pnefc
Chalinor
Cleverly
Alexander
Rob Edward’s
Robin van persie
Struber
Steve cooper
Robbie Keane
Gerrard
Jon Dahl tomasson

@TopLeaf9: Ive got the answer for PH, I reckon we should play every player in their natural position 👍 #pne #pnefc

@thenorthend11: If he does go, we have to go for something different. Look abroad for a gaffer. Plenty of young European managers dying to manage in England. #pnefc

@PNEFansForum: I don’t mind losing. I just hate sloppy play. Poor attitude. Being second to the ball. Relying on the ref. Lack of fight. Lack of passion. Being outfought for everything. Laziness. I cant get behind that. Its hard to see. #pnefc

@traynor_danny: This squad is terrible.. from top to bottom the club is awful at the moment.. take over talk has dun us im afraid… time for change at every single level.. #pnefc

@HParkz10: If we lose to Bristol City, he has to go before Rovers, especially with his derby record. Can’t afford to embarrass ourselves again #pnefc

@SamJayne11: I’m that deflated I can’t even be bothered giving my comments on the game. Bored, uninspired & clueless on where we go from here. Goodnight whites, I’m off to forget with a drink #pnefc

@jaingham123: On reflection, first half was ok. Didn’t offer much but allowed them nothing. It says a lot when Charlton fans are asking me why we moved to a back 4 taking Offiah off as we looked crap from then. After their goal we looked utterly clueless. Looked like we came for a 0-0 #pnefc
