Nottingham Forest planning January move to sign £83,000-a-week former Crystal Palace star

Nottingham Forest are looking to sign a former Crystal Palace star during the January transfer window, having endured a difficult start to the Premier League season.

Oliver Glasner has won just one of his opening eight Premier League matches, since replacing Vitor Pereira in the Forest dugout, with the Austrian most recently failing to guide his side to a victory against newly-promoted Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The Tricky Trees got off to an ideal start, with Neco Williams netting the opening goal after just 13 minutes, but Julio Enciso’s equaliser just before half-time ensured the spoils were shared.

However, despite coming up short, Glasner was pleased with his side’s performance, which suggests there could be a platform to build on going forward, with a tough trip to the Gtech Community Stadium to take on Brentford penciled in for next weekend.

One win could start to turn the tides in Glasner’s favour, but with his side sitting in the relegation zone, having amassed just six points so far this season, reinforcements may be needed in the January transfer window, and an ex-Crystal Palace star has emerged as a target.

Nottingham Forest eyeing January move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Nottingham Forest are now plotting a January move for AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but there could be stiff competition in the race for his signature, with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United also keen.

Interestingly, the Serie A side are now prepared to offload Loftus-Cheek, with the central midfielder falling down the pecking order at the San Siro this season, and starting just three of their opening six league matches.

Although the 30-year-old has struggled for game time during the opening stages of the season, his previous exploits suggest he would have what it takes to succeed at the City Ground.

After AC Milan’s 3-0 triumph against Bologna last season, Max Allegri said: “Nkunku and Loftus-Cheek are players of enormous quality. It was always going to be a game that we needed to take seriously, because they have been very decent at the back. Bologna are a dangerous team that plays well. The boys did well defensively and offensively.”

The Englishman has also amassed 11 caps for the Three Lions, and he is experienced in the Premier League, amassing ten goals and 11 assists in 157 matches in the competition across spells with Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Fulham.

As such, Loftus-Cheek, who rakes in £83,000-a-week at the San Siro, could be a solid winter addition for Nottingham Forest, who may need a fresh injection of quality to avoid being dragged into another relegation battle.
