Robin Williams was one of our most versatile performers, capable of incredibly moving drama and hilarious comedy — often in the same film. That remarkable range feels well represented by the movies Dead Poets Society and Mrs. Doubtfire, which Disney is reissuing on 4K Ultra HD this September.
Dead Poets Society, directed by Peter Weir, features Williams as “an unconventional English professor who uses poetry to inspire his students to ‘Carpe Diem!’”, per the official description — a performance that earned him an Academy Award nomination for Lead Actor. He was not similarly nominated for Mrs. Doubtfire, but arguably should have been: The broad comedy featured Williams as a man in disguise as a British housekeeper, navigating big slapstick moments as well as the pathos of a divorced man simply trying to connect with his kids.
The new releases, according to Disney, “will include 4K resolution, High Dynamic Range (HDR), wider color spectrum and immersive audio, offering the ultimate home-viewing experience.” They’ll also both be available in 4K on VOD platforms including Amazon and Apple TV.
