🏎️ During the 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, Lando Norris found himself in a difficult situation when rain suddenly hit Zandvoort on Lap 1. While many drivers pitted for intermediate tyres, McLaren gambled by keeping Norris out on soft tyres, hoping the rain would stop and the track would dry quickly.
🌧️ By Lap 3, the strategy was already looking questionable. Sergio Perez and several other drivers on intermediate tyres began overtaking Norris, while Norris warned McLaren that the track was getting too wet and wouldn’t dry anytime soon. Despite Norris’ concerns, his engineer remained confident that staying out was still the faster strategy.
📻 What followed was one of the memorable team radio moments from the 2023 Formula 1 season. As Norris continued losing positions to drivers on intermediate tyres, McLaren told him they were still faster than the cars on inters. Norris’ stunned response says it all before he finally pitted for intermediate tyres.
