Max Verstappen’s Last Home Race
Formula 1 is back, and Max Verstappen is about to lose his home race forever.
Zandvoort returned to the calendar in 2021 after a 35 year break, thanks to the popularity of Max, who won there in 2021, 2022 and 2023 in front of the Orange Army. But after just 5 years back, the Dutch Grand Prix is leaving again. The organisers receive no government money, and they can no longer carry the cost of hosting.
And on the same morning, the saga ended: Max re-signed with Red Bull until 2030, calling the team “like a second family.” The king keeps his castle, but loses his home race.
Plus, Isack Hadjar is out with a wrist injury, so Liam Lawson is back alongside Max, at the very circuit where he made his F1 debut in 2023, replacing an injured Daniel Ricciardo. Carlos Sainz is confirmed at Williams for 2027. And Kimi Antonelli arrives leading the championship by 50 points, in his last race as a teenager.
It’s Zandvoort’s first and last sprint weekend, with rain forecast. Who takes the final Dutch Grand Prix? Let me know in the comments.
