Jamal Musiala shares update after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days

Jamal Musiala shares an update via his social media after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days.

The 23 year old Bayern Munich winger went down around six minutes after being subbed on in his side’s friendly with FC Heidenheim on Tuesday, having done the same in Saturday’s friendly against RB Leipzig.

Players from both teams immediately gathered around him, with medics making their way onto the pitch to treat him, before he was able to walk off, with fans applauding.

It as since been revealed that Jamal Musiala has been diagnosed with temporary episodes of absence caused by neurological dysfunction.

Bayern director Max Eberl spoke on Musiala, when asked “We’ve all seen the pictures, can you tell us what happened”, he replied: “Jamal will speak out in the near future. We knew about it and we’re aware, but Jamal will speak out”

Interviewer: If you were aware, then why did he play today?

Eberl: “Jamal will speak about it”

Interviewer: How’s he doing now?

Eberl: “He’s in the dressing room, getting changed and taking a shower”

Jamal said in a post on Instagram after the game: “First things first – I’m doing well!

“I’m especially grateful for your messages and support!

“I understand that many of you are worried. I’d like to alleviate those concerns today and explain something:

“I’ve been diagnosed with temporary, brief, but easily treatable absence seizures, which are due to a neurological dysfunction.

“These can lead to the recent episodes, like the one against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim.

“I know they seem scary at first glance – but for me, they’re currently just part of my everyday life. I’m receiving excellent medical treatment and am very optimistic. FC Bayern and my family and friends are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.

“Importantly, there are no further health risks. In close consultation and regular communication with the experts, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with the clearance from the neurologists, to continue focusing on what helps me most in my recovery: simply living my daily life and pursuing my passion for playing football. I’ve taken responsibility for that. Overall, I have a very good feeling and I’m on the right track.

“What helps me most on this path is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team and your amazing support.

“I hope you can understand me better now. At the same time, I ask for your understanding that I would like to keep this matter within my closest circle of confidants, the club, and the experts.

“Thank you so much, J ❤️”

Prof. Christoph Kleinschnitz (head of neurology at the University Hospital Essen) spoke to BILD about Jamal Musiala’s condition: “From a neurological perspective, this could potentially be an epileptic seizure.

“It could be a form of absence epilepsy, as symptoms such as brief periods of unresponsiveness are consistent with it.

“However, we would need to know all the findings from the neurological examinations to make that assessment.

“It is highly treatable, but would require long-term therapy.

“Musiala can continue playing football”
