Indigo Girls’ Bus Driver Killed in Crash



Indigo Girls’ longtime tour bus driver was killed in a crash in South Carolina on Friday morning. No band or crew members were onboard at the time.

According to WLTX, the driver, identified by the band as “Kirk,” was traveling along Interstate 20 in Richland County around 6:00 a.m. local time when the bus collided with a disabled tractor-trailer. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

“Kirk was an integral part of our life on the road,” Indigo Girls said in a statement. “He shepherded us safely across thousands of miles, through every season and all kinds of weather. He was a joyful constant in our lives, and we will miss him dearly.”

Indigo Girls have cancelled their Saturday night performance in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The band said decisions regarding upcoming concerts in Wilmington, North Carolina; Ponte Vedra, Florida; and Sugar Land, Texas would be announced in the coming days.

“The tour will resume as soon as we are ready and able,” Indigo Girls said. “For now, we ask that you take a moment to say a prayer or send your love to Kirk, who helped bring Indigo Girls’ music to you every night on tour.”
