Imagine walking into court and seeing John Cena representing the other side.
Coyote vs. Acme (2026) is a live-action animated comedy that puts the legendary Looney Tunes character Wile E. Coyote at the center of an unexpected legal battle. Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch from a story by Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater, the film stars Will Forte, Lana Condor, Tone Bell, Luis Guzmán, Martha Kelly, P.J. Byrne, Kenneth Choi, and John Cena, with Eric Bauza, Candi Milo, and Jim Cummings lending their voices to the animated characters. Inspired by Ian Frazier’s 1990 The New Yorker article “Coyote v. Acme,” the story follows Wile E. Coyote after years of failed attempts to catch the Road Runner leave him convinced that Acme Corporation’s products are responsible for his endless suffering. Instead of accepting another defeat, he teams up with a struggling billboard lawyer and takes Acme to court, turning his lifelong cartoon misfortune into a ridiculous courtroom battle. What makes the film even more remarkable is its journey to release, as Warner Bros. initially shelved the movie in 2023 for a tax write-off before reversing the decision after significant public backlash. Ketchup Entertainment eventually acquired the film for $50 million, giving it a second chance at reaching audiences. After screening at San Diego Comic-Con on July 25, 2026, Coyote vs. Acme is scheduled for a U.S. theatrical release on August 28, 2026, and has already received positive reactions from critics for its blend of live-action comedy, animation, and classic Looney Tunes humor.
