How Leeds could sign another Harry Wilson with £30m deal

Leeds United made a statement addition to their squad at the start of last month when they confirmed the signing of winger Harry Wilson on a permanent deal.

The Wales international became a free agent at the start of July after he opted against putting pen to paper on a new contract with Premier League rivals Fulham.

Wilson scored ten goals and provided seven assists in the top-flight in the 2025/26 campaign for the Cottagers, which means that he joins the Whites as a proven performer at the level.

The 29-year-old wide forward has already caught the eye during the club’s pre-season matches, already assisting a goal for Joel Piroe against Wrexham.

Before the summer transfer window slams shut in September, Daniel Farke needs to urge the 49ers to bring in more quality in the wide areas to ensure that his team has the required depth.

Whilst Leeds have been exciting to watch in pre-season, recently beating Liverpool 4-2 in a friendly, they did not have enough consistency from their attackers last term.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored 14 goals, was the only Leeds player who reached double figures for either goals or assists in the Premier League last season.

Wilson racked up ten goals for Fulham, though, which means that two of the club’s current players did record double digits for goals in the top-flight in the 2025/26 campaign.

The Whites, though, need to make sure that they have back-ups who can step in and contribute if the likes of Wilson and Calvert-Lewin are not at their best, which is why they need to go back into the market for further reinforcements.

In fact, the club are already looking at a player who could be exactly what they need to complement the signing of the former Fulham winger this season.

Football Insider has reported that Leeds United are in the running to sign Harvey Elliott from Liverpool, as the 49ers explore further recruits for the club.

It is claimed that the Whites signing him is a possibility in the summer transfer window and that they would be an attractive destination for him, but that they are not leading the race.

RB Leipzig are currently the favourites to sign the left-footed attacking midfielder and that they have had a long-standing interest in the former England U21 international.

Leeds must now push to get ahead of the Bundesliga outfit in the race for Elliott, who was touted at £30m earlier this summer, because he could be the club’s next version of Wilson.

Like the Welsh attacker, the Liverpool youngster is a left-footed forward who can play on the right wing or as an attacking midfielder, giving the team variety by coming inside onto his left foot instead of having Brenden Aaronson play on that side of the pitch.

Due to a frustrating loan spell with Aston Villa, the last time Elliott had a run of games under his belt was when he spearheaded England’s attack when they won the U21 European Championship last year, hailed as an “explosive” talent by Young Lions boss Lee Carsley.

The 23-year-old star caught the eye at the tournament with five goals in six matches, showcasing his potential as a goalscoring midfielder, but his subsequent move to Aston Villa did not go to plan.

He only played 304 minutes in all competitions in the 2025/26 campaign, despite being available for selection, but his form for Liverpool in previous seasons suggests that he could be a fantastic signing for the Whites.

Elliott racked up nine goals and 14 assists in the previous two seasons for the Premier League giants before his loan move to Villa, which shows that he has more to offer than he showed with the Villans.

The English youngster is a left-footed player who has the potential to score and create goals, just like Wilson, and he could add much-needed quality and depth to Farke’s options in the attacking positions.

Now, the 49ers must make an approach to explore a deal for the former Fulham youngster to barge ahead of Leipzig in the race for his signature.
