Horner Drops Public Bombshell — He Wants Vasseur’s Job At Ferrari

Christian Horner has told The Times that Ferrari is the only Formula 1 team he would join without an ownership stake, calling the Maranello job “the dream” and Ferrari “the sleeping giant” of the sport. Fourteen months after Red Bull removed him, the one condition he has repeated in every interview since — owner or nothing — has been dropped for a single team, on the record, on a race weekend. And Ferrari have not responded.

Horner’s exact words: “At this stage in my life, there’s only one team for which I would accept non-participation in ownership.” Asked about Ferrari: “Ferrari is the biggest brand in Formula 1. It’s the dream. And arguably it’s the sleeping giant of Formula 1.” He added that he still feels “there’s another dance” and that Toto Wolff “needs to have his hair ruffled up”. Sixteen days earlier Corriere della Sera reported that pressure on Fred Vasseur was coming from chairman John Elkann, and The Race named Horner as a possible successor. His name being on a list didn’t mean much while he wanted equity. This morning he removed that objection himself.

What’s covered in this video:
– What Horner actually said to The Times, word for word, and what he has said every time before
– Why dropping the ownership condition for one team is the story, not the interview
– Fred Vasseur’s position this weekend at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix: a car more than a second off Mercedes on Thursday, a contract to 2027, and a newspaper on every desk in Maranello
– What is confirmed, what is reported, and what Ferrari have said, which is nothing
– Corriere della Sera, The Race, PlanetF1’s paddock sources and the Italian reaction: Horner has said yes, but Ferrari didn’t ask
– The Reddit and X reaction: 1,500 upvotes in three hours, and why the top comment was about Toto Wolff
– The three questions nobody has answered: will Ferrari respond, would Elkann hire him, and would Horner survive Maranello
– Horner’s Red Bull record, the £75 million settlement and the summer 2026 return clause, and the 2023 Marko admission that Red Bull paid millions to stop Ferrari signing him
– The verdict: this was a price signal, not a job application, and the pressure now sits on one desk in Maranello

Common questions answered: Has Christian Horner been offered the Ferrari job? No — nothing has been offered or reported as offered; Horner said he would accept it without ownership. Has Ferrari responded? No — Sky Sports, ESPN, RacingNews365 and PlanetF1 all note Ferrari have made no comment. Is Fred Vasseur being replaced? Nothing has been announced; he is on a multi-year contract extended in July 2025. Why is Horner talking now? His memoir, Drive, is published on 22 October 2026 and the interview is part of that. Could Horner return to F1 in 2027? Sky Sports reported his Red Bull settlement was structured to allow a return from summer 2026. Has Ferrari wanted Horner before? Helmut Marko said in 2023 that Red Bull paid millions to stop Ferrari signing him.

Mentioned in this video: Christian Horner, Fred Vasseur, John Elkann, Toto Wolff, Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Helmut Marko, Marc Surer, Giorgio Terruzzi, Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, The Times, Corriere della Sera, The Race, Sky Sports, ESPN, PlanetF1, Maranello, Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Singapore Grand Prix.

⚖️ The Verdict: this wasn’t a job application, it was a price signal. Horner took away Ferrari’s excuse. The question is no longer whether Ferrari can get him, it’s whether they want him — and that is a question they now have to answer in public every weekend the car is a second off the pace.
