games off & pitch inspections

Storm Boelo is bringing another unsettled matchday, following Storm Austen’s passage across the UK on Friday. This tracker brings together confirmed football postponements and announced pitch inspections for Saturday 24 October, with the source linked beside each fixture.
Latest update of today: 4:12pm BST, Saturday 24 October 2026. A pitch inspection is not a postponement. Both previously unresolved inspections have now been moved to the game-on section below. This tracker currently lists 34 confirmed postponements and 32 further reported call-offs, plus four game-on updates and one confirmed abandonment. This is a checked list, not a complete list of every fixture in the UK; check the home club before travelling.
Match abandoned — Saturday 24 October
Abandoned in the 14th minute because of adverse weather. Barrow says the referee carried out hourly pre-match pitch inspections and judged the surface playable, before conditions deteriorated after kick-off. Barrow were 1–0 ahead; the club confirms the fixture will be replayed in full from 0–0. New date and ticket details to follow.
The weather: last night, this morning and later today
Friday into last night: Austen brought a rough start to the weekend across southern England and Wales, while rain affected parts of Scotland. The Met Office reported Friday-morning gusts of 76mph in the Isles of Scilly, 74mph at Aberporth and 71mph at Culdrose. Those are Friday readings, not overnight measurements. Its outlook suggested a brief improvement on Friday night before the next system arrived. Met Office storm update.
Saturday morning: The Met Office’s forecast put the brighter start in eastern areas, with rain and strengthening winds moving into the west. Its North West England bulletin, issued at 4am, described a mainly dry dawn followed by worsening conditions. Northern Ireland also has official amber and yellow wind warnings across the weekend. Conditions vary considerably: a quieter morning locally does not guarantee a straightforward trip home. North West forecast; Northern Ireland warnings.
Later today and tonight: Rain and stronger winds are forecast to spread east. The updated warning describes widespread gusts of 55–65mph across northern areas, with 70–80mph possible in exposed locations. Scotland’s amber warning runs from 9pm tonight into Sunday evening. Heavy rain also brings a surface-water risk in parts of England and Wales. These are forecasts, not recorded matchday totals. Met Office warning details; Traffic Scotland.

Before you travel
A match going ahead does not mean every route will be unaffected. Network Rail has announced Saturday-night closures on exposed Scottish lines, while Avanti advises against travel north of Preston on Sunday. Check both your outward journey and return service.
