Fulham now make approach to sign “untouchable” former Chelsea star who Lampard loves

Fulham have been in contact to sign a former Chelsea player, and there are growing signs that a deal will be possible.

After a shaky start to the post-Marco Silva era, the Cottagers are now starting to turn things around, picking up back-to-back wins in the Premier League, albeit against two of the newly-promoted clubs.

Most recently, Alvaro Arbeloa’s side ran out 1-0 winners against Coventry City away from home, with Oscar Bobb netting the all-important late goal to lift his side out of the relegation zone.

Arbeloa was left impressed by his side’s performance and overall work ethic heading into the match, saying: “We are working so hard every day. We are a team that need to give our best every day.

“We started preparing for this game at the beginning of the week, and I’m so happy with everybody. This is the way we have to play.”

Of course, Arbeloa isn’t in the clear just yet, with his team still just two points above the bottom three, but there are encouraging signs ahead of the January transfer window, in which the Cottagers are looking to strengthen.

Fulham make approach to sign Fikayo Tomori

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Fulham have now made contact regarding a January deal for Fikayo Tomori, with AC Milan now willing to offload the former Chelsea defender, while they are also prepared to cash-in on Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Coventry City boss Frank Lampard is a fan of both players, having worked with them during his time at Stamford Bridge, but Coventry may struggle to win the race for the duo, given that they have made a slow start to the campaign.

Both Tomori and Loftus-Cheek are in high demand, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United making approaches, and the ex-Chelsea stars returning to the Premier League is starting to look increasingly likely.

That is despite Tomori putting in some impressive performances during his time with the Italian giants, having been lauded as one of AC Milan’s “untouchable” players by former England boss Fabio Capello during the 2025-25 campaign.

The English defender averaged 2.3 tackles per 90 across the Serie A campaign, which is more than almost any Fulham player has managed in the Premier League this season.

Although Arbeloa has improved things at the back recently, keeping clean sheets against Hull City and Coventry, his side have looked suspect defensively at times this season, shipping three goals at home against both Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

Consequently, it may be a savvy move to strengthen the defence this winter, and Tomori is an experienced centre-back, with 163 Serie A appearances to his name.
