Fans brutally troll Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif for celebrating Hong Kong Sixes win over India

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif became the centre of attention on social media after congratulating the national cricket team for defeating India in the Hong Kong International Sixes 2026. Pakistan registered a four-wicket victory over their arch-rivals in the Group C encounter on Friday, October 30. However, Sharif’s celebratory message on social media did not receive the response he might have expected, as several fans took the opportunity to troll him with sarcastic remarks and memes.
The reaction came after the Pakistan PM publicly praised the team’s performance and acknowledged the efforts of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). While the victory sparked celebrations among Pakistani supporters, a section of cricket fans questioned the significance attached to a result in the six-a-side competition.
Shehbaz Sharif congratulates Pakistan after victory over India
Following Pakistan’s impressive win, Sharif took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate the players. He also extended his appreciation to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the board’s management for their efforts in preparing the team for the tournament.
“Congratulations to our boys on a superb four-wicket victory over India in the opening clash of the Hong Kong Sixes 2026! It was a good game of cricket. I also commend Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi @MohsinnaqviC42 and his team for their dedicated efforts in preparing and supporting our players,” Sharif wrote.

However, his post quickly attracted attention for reasons beyond the cricketing result. Several users questioned why the country’s Prime Minister was celebrating a victory in a shortened six-a-side tournament with such enthusiasm.
Fans flood Pakistan PM’s post with memes and sarcastic reactions
Social media users wasted little time responding to the Pakistan Prime Minister’s congratulatory message. His post was flooded with memes, jokes and sarcastic comments, with several fans taking humorous digs at the importance being attached to the result.
While some questioned whether the Hong Kong Sixes victory deserved a public statement from the country’s top political leader, others used the opportunity to make comparisons with the teams’ performances in traditional international cricket.

Pakistan dominate India in a one-sided Hong Kong Sixes contest
Meanwhile, the match itself witnessed an explosive batting display from Pakistan. Batting first in the Group C encounter, India managed to post a competitive total, largely thanks to Shashank Singh‘s blistering knock of 40 runs off just 11 deliveries. However, India’s innings also witnessed a disappointing performance from Krunal Pandya and Rahul Tewatia, with both batters departing for golden ducks.
Pakistan made light work of the 89-run target, completing the chase in just 3.5 overs. Captain Abbas Afridi provided an explosive start by smashing five consecutive sixes off Krunal in an over that yielded 31 runs. Khawaja Nafay then took charge with a stunning 41 off just 12 deliveries, ensuring Pakistan crossed the finishing line with four wickets remaining and 13 balls to spare.
