Dave Grohl Dedicates “My Hero” to Jack Smith at Power to the People

Dave Grohl dedicated Foo Fighters’ performance of “My Hero” at the Power to the People Festival to “my new friend Jack.” While he didn’t specify Jack by his full name, former assistant U.S. attorney and special counsel Jack Smith, who was appointed to investigate Donald Trump’s actions following January 6th, was spotted in the crowd. What’s more, Grohl wore an Iowa Hawkeyes T-shirt, a not-so-subtle reference to Senator Eric Schmitt’s ill-fated attempt to get Smith to perjure himself before Congress earlier this week.
Elsewhere in Foo Fighters’ set, Grohl reminisced about his time campaigning for John Kerry, while also paying tribute to his late mother, Virginia: “We traveled from town to town to town through the Midwest, small towns. And you would show up to these rallies, and there’d be a couple hundred people, but they were in need of rescue. And I was looking at all these people, and I would step out on stage and explain to everybody, like, ‘Hey man, my mom was a public school teacher for 35 years in Fairfax County. I know what it’s like when we were kids.’ And my mom was an amazing person that always fought the good fight.”
“And so as we went city to city to city, town to town to town, I thought, ‘Oh, this is what it’s all about.’ It’s all about coming face-to-face with the people that you’re here to talk to, to talk about the things that they need, to talk about rescuing them from a situation. And I’m like, that’s what it’s all about: face-to-face, ‘Hey, let’s talk about it, man. Let’s figure this shit out, right?’”
