Celtic now also in advanced talks to sign country’s star player

Celtic are pushing to get several deals over the line as Martin O’Neill’s squad takes shape before Thursday’s Scottish transfer deadline.

Tuesday’s developments suggest the final days could bring changes in goal, midfield and attack, although not every negotiation is moving at the same speed.

Oliver Sørensen and Joël van den Berg are among the closest to arriving.

Parma midfielder Sørensen is expected to join on loan with a purchase option, while PSV youngster van den Berg is heading towards a permanent move worth around £3.5 million.

Both players have travelled to Glasgow as Celtic work through the remaining formalities.

There is movement between the posts, too.

Sam Johnstone-1

Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is reportedly due in Glasgow after an agreement was reached over a season on loan, and his arrival would bring an experienced challenger for Viljami Sinisalo.

Another deal has advanced this morning.

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph says Chelsea striker Shim Mheuka is undergoing a medical in London ahead of a possible loan switch.

The 18-year-old would give O’Neill another exciting attacking option, with Johnny Kenny attracting interest from Bolton and Callum Osmand injured.

Crystal Palace’s Justin Devenny is also on Celtic’s radar, and Alan Nixon says the Hoops have approached Palace about a loan, although the London club would prefer to sell.

That leaves Celtic trying to complete several different negotiations, and one familiar name has refused to disappear from the conversation.

Celtic now in advanced talks with Torino over Gvidas Gineitis

Gvidas-Gineitis-lithuania

Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph now says that Celtic and Torino are locked in advanced talks over Gvidas Gineitis, with the clubs now close to agreeing the terms of a deal.

The possibility of a late move is now seriously alive after a summer in which the Lithuanian has repeatedly been linked with Parkhead.

Gineitis would offer more than promise alone.

The 22-year-old was named Lithuanian Footballer of the Year in both 2024 and 2025, and he’s been impressing in Serie A as well.

He developed in Italy with SPAL before joining Torino in 2022 and made his Serie A debut against AC Milan in February 2023.

For Celtic, the appeal is a young midfielder with experience of Italian football and room to improve further.

The big question is whether that opportunity remains affordable alongside the other deals being pursued, but Joseph’s big update suggests it must be.
