Burnley eyeing move for “exceptional” former Huddersfield manager

Burnley are searching for a new manager, after sacking Nicky Hayen on Saturday, and a former Huddersfield Town boss has now emerged as an option.

In truth, the appointment of Hayen has to go down as a disastrous decision, considering the Belgian picked up just one win in 12 matches during his time with the Clarets, and a 4-1 defeat against Lincoln City at the ProAmpac Stadium sealed his fate.

However, there are deeper issues at play, according to content creator Vizeh, who has suggested the current squad simply isn’t good enough, with a relegation battle very much on the cards this season.

Having taken just eight points from their first 12 matches, the Lancashire outfit are currently sitting 12th in the Championship table, which means they are already three points from safety, and having conceded 25 goals, they have the joint-worst defensive record in the division.

Consequently, it is vital for the board to get their next appointment right, and a manager with plenty of Championship experience is now being eyed up as a replacement for Hayen.

Burnley considering move for Carlos Corberan

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Burnley are now considering a move for Carlos Corberan, who has been out of work since leaving La Liga side Valencia in September, but it could be difficult to win the race for his signature.

Corberan is keen to secure himself a job in the Premier League, having now gained experience in the top tier of Spanish football, guiding his side to a respectable ninth-place finish last season.

Ex-Genoa sporting director Diego Lopez, who is set to be appointed by the Clarets, is regarded as a fan of the 43-year-old, who has managed 190 matches in the Championship, across spells with West Bromwich Albion and Huddersfield Town.

The Spaniard, who is being targeted as an alternative to Rob Edwards, also spent time working as Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United, assistant in the Championship, and he played a role in the Whites’ success, securing promotion to the Premier League in the 2019-20 campaign.

UEFA Pro Coach Roger Bonet is a keen admirer of the Valencia-born tactician too, saying: “I have followed Carlos Corberan for years, learning invaluable insights from his teams. There’s no doubt that, sooner or later, he will find his way to coaching in the Premier League. His work at WBA has been nothing short of exceptional.”

As such, Corberan could be a real coup for Burnley, who may find it difficult to attract managers of his calibre, considering they are currently struggling at the wrong end of the Championship table.
