Birmingham and Wolves play out thriller including stunning strike and bizarre own goal
Birmingham and Wolves play out a West Midlands thriller on Sunday afternoon, including a stunning strike and a bizarre own goal.
In what is the first meeting between the two sides since 2018, Fer Lopez had given Wolverhampton Wanderers the lead after just three minutes.
Jay Stansfield then levelled for Birmingham on 22 minutes, and oh how badly he needed that, after huge missed chances in recent games.
Just after the half hour mark, Ladislav Krejci then put Wolves ahead again with powerful header, but then Jackson Tchatchoua aimed too high with a kick going over his own keeper, giving the Blues their equaliser in quite the first half. There was even time for Raul Jimenez to strike the top of the crossbar.

Much more to come in the second half, if the first half is anything to go by…
Here’s the social media reaction as Birmingham and Wolves play out thriller including a stunning strike and a bizarre own goal…
@Wolfenblack: Tchatchoua…… Even if it was a pass back and Sa was there it was at an awful height. Hurry up back Tripps. We can’t rely on our defence, we need to outscore every team. #wwfc
@Ry4nH07: Armstrong and Munetsi off at half time. Mane and James on. Have no words for Jackson, the kid is shocking and paid £60k a week for the privilege. Sa again not covering himself in glory. Until we can firm up this defence we aren’t going to compete with the best teams in the league
@willwwfc: I can’t quite believe what i’ve just witnessed with my own eyes to be honest
@WWFC_Bren: A banger and a pathetic own goal. What the fuck is our luck
@wbaaa7: that’s the wrong goal btw
@CraigsFootyNews: Birmingham vs Wolves is absolute cinema. What is going on, and what was Tchatchoua thinking 😂
@jaycubedd: nobody in the youth academy can possibly be as bad at football as Jackson tchatchoua
@BullseyeTips: Conceding 2+ goals every game with these fuckin calamities at the back. Outrageous that we didnt invest in some proper defenders. Jackson worst iv ever seen play football #wwfc #wolves
@tummyevans: Please get Jackson out of this team, the biggest liability I have ever seen just robbing a living as a footballer #wolves
@TJLWWFC: Defensively poor. Look good going forward but too happy to go back or side to side. Still can’t believe Tchatchoua is a professional footballer and we actually pay him. If he had no pace he’d have nothing.
@GoldenWolves2: Dogshit. I’m not gonna give some weak version just to make people happy. I’m gonna be blunt. We are not good enough, we constantly keep leaking goals every single game and our attack is woeful! Our press is non existent most of the time and we’re sloppy, nothing is smooth
@MarkoutMountain: One of the more embarrassing things I’ve seen as a wolves fan and that is saying something.
@caswellfc_:
Lima
Hoever
Doherty
John Ruddy
U21s player
U18s player
U16s player
all better options than Tchacthoua xx
@Inti_Official: Crazy derby! 🔥 Both teams look capable of scoring in so many different ways. End-to-end stuff — feels like there are plenty more goals in this yet! ⚽️💙🧡
@MrBrum43: Stansfield’s goal was sensational.
Roberts has been brilliant.
Millar looks positive & lively.
Iwata is a bag of poo 💩
#bcfc
@bcfc_RA86: That’s some finish from Stanno! We need to exploit the centre backs a bit more as there’s plenty of space! Priske has to do better in the air – their back line looks flakey! #bcfc #kro
@richierooster69: Mental half. Another worldie and well, I don’t know what to say about the 2nd. #wolves
@conorkeane21: Paik and Iwata worked in League One but just isn’t up to the standard in the Championship. Both showing carelessness with the ball, for those who didn’t know it already, Solis is going to be a huge miss. #bcfc
@Harry_BCFC: Gifted wolves there goals as we always do. Iwata & Paik look as weak & panicky as the wolves defence. Such a funny OG. Stanno with a rocket 🚀 Miller looking skillful, be coached out of him soon no doubt. Hopefully we don’t get overrun in the middle of the park 2nd half. #BCFC
@lixxm23: Tchatchoua might be the answer to the “striker problem” we apparently have. Great finish #bcfc #kro
