Arsenal now seriously keen on signing “incredible” £50m Champions League star
Arsenal may have returned to Champions League action on Wednesday evening, but Andrea Berta has his eyes fixed firmly on the January transfer market.
Indeed, the Gunners are now looking to sign a player who has been impressing in Europe’s elite competition this season.
Mikel Arteta has plenty of attacking firepower at his disposal, but questions have been asked about the left-wing and striker positions as doubts continue to surround the future of Viktor Gyokeres.
The Sweden international has been a peripheral figure for most of this season despite being the club’s top scorer last term, but Arteta insists his side have enough magic in the attacking ranks.
“We’re going to see at the end of the season. I think so far, yes, because in the games that we have played, we have produced those moments, and they’ve been produced by different players, which is something very positive, and it’s football.”

At the other end, the Gunners have also looked extremely solid defensively, having already kept four Premier League clean sheets this season, but surprisingly it’s in defence that they are now looking to make their first new addition of 2027.
Arsenal hold serious interest in signing Wesley
That is according to a report from Football Insider, which reveals Arsenal are now seriously keen on signing AS Roma star Wesley, as they are huge fans of the full-back, who is able to play on both sides of the defence.
However, Manchester United have also emerged as potential suitors for the Brazilian, and a deal could be a costly operation, considering he has been valued at £50m by the Serie A side.
Moreover, Roma are not prepared to sanction a departure during the January transfer window, which means the Gunners may have to wait until the end of the season before making a move.
Waiting until the summer could be ideal for Arsenal, as the 23-year-old’s main position is right-back, where Arteta already has the likes of Jurrien Timber and Ben White to choose from.
However, Timber and White’s contracts are set to expire in the summer of 2028, which means a new right-back may be required soon, and the Roma star could be an exciting option, with experienced manager Jorge Sampaoli of the belief he is a well-rounded full-back.
Sampaoli said: “He’s a player with personality. I met him a little younger, but he immediately impressed me. He’s a great attacker, has great speed, incredible physical ability, and good defensive skills.”
Wesley’s 2025-26 Serie A performance
- 30 matches
- 5 goals
- 1 assist
- 9 big chances created
- 2 red cards
The eight-cap Brazil international has gone on to have his first taste of Champions League football this season, making three appearances in the competition, and he won a penalty in Roma’s 4-0 victory against Slovan Bratislava last time out.
