Anthony Johnson reacts after Bury throw away two goal lead and end up losing 3-2 to Guiseley
Anthony Johnson reacts after his Bury side throw away an early two goal lead and end up losing 3-2 to Guiseley on Tuesday night.
The Shakers were unbeaten going into the midweek fixture, winning two and drawing one in their first season in the Northern Premier League Premier Division.
The impressed when going 2-0 up after 7 minutes in the game against Guiseley, only to go into half time at 2-2, then conceded a third in the 90th minute.
Still, they sit 7th in the league table, Guiseley, a place above them, both on 7 points from 4 games.

Anthony Johnson said: “Well, it couldn’t have started any better, could it? You know, first 5-10 minutes. Incredible. Just a carry on from everything else we’ve done. Well worth the two goals, you know, it was pressure after pressure, cross after cross, chance after chance. It was fantastic.
“What’s really disappointing and I suppose what’s tough, so we talked about it on Saturday going from a Saturday to Tuesday game is these are the worst team you can come up against without having a training session in between because unless the lads can see the size of them see the size of the throw the directness of it, I don’t think you understand it and appreciate it, does that make sense, what I’m saying?
“So, we got a couple of warning signs at 2-0 I think with a throwing in a couple of corners. You know, they play for pressure. It’s what they do. We conceded no corners against Curzon and then only two in the last couple of minutes against Rylands because of control.
“These played away that put you under pressure, ask you questions to get corners. We had to defend corner after corner, cross after cross, set piece after set piece, and unfortunately for us, we showed a massive naivity, a huge weakness, both from a literal point of view, individually and from a metaphorical point of view on in the moments.
“Look, I also have got to say it’s really important. I don’t know how you guys saw it, but both goals look blatantly offside. Both goals to me, I have to watch it back. It’s not sour grapes. I know people think that it’s not. It’s what I saw. I thought both goals, the lino went to put his flag up on both occasions. Didn’t do the first one’s bizarre because he’s in and around the keeper. So how that’s not said, I don’t know. And the second one, the ball that was dropped over Bailey’s head looked offside.
“But the naivity that we showed from a marking, not tracking runners point of view was alarming if I’m being completely honest. I knew exactly what was coming. It’s what we’ve been saying to the lads over the last few days, you know, on the group and whatnot, so we knew what was coming, but it was very difficult when you haven’t got a training session to see it live.
“Half time, it is what it is. We go in at 2-2, go in at half time and we just said it felt like we we’d invited pressure on by forcing the issue when we didn’t need to at 2-0. You don’t have to score every time we get the ball, and we give the ball away too cheaply at times during that period. So they said at half time, look, let’s get back on the ball. Let’s control the play.
“I thought second half was exactly what we asked for. I thought there was some really good passages of play second half. Um and I said to you before, I think I said after the red card, you get to a stage in the game where a draw is a draw. You shake hands and you move on.
“But again, another restart, a throw in and then a free kick off the throw in um to concede and letting the man get in front of us is not good enough. It’s not. But that’s, you can put that right as an individual by marking the man properly, and sometimes you know you need that to happen to you like it happened to us last season against Vauxhall. You need that to happen to you so players can can understand it rather than just talking about it.
“So some really poor moments in the game which have cost us, no getting away from it. But ultimately still still lots of positives to come in be up. You know, we was in dreamland for for a while, but they pegged us back. It happens in football happened to us last week against Curzon and this week it’s gone the other way.”

Here’s what social media users are saying as Anthony Johnson reacts after Bury throw awaya two goal lead and end up losing 3-2 to Guiseley…
@DS950143957262: It’s already a noticeable step up in quality at step 3. We have to play well to win games at this level, at step 4 and below we merely had to not play badly. This squad should be in the play-off mix, and that is fine for me. We must not overspend our way to try for promotion.
@SirCCodpiece: Great interview that and it seems we are appealing that ridiculous @djpedro981 red card! Good stuff! #Buryfc
