With Senne Lammens established between the posts and the 2025 spree to bring in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko fixing the attack, the now permanent manager spent the entire budget on the position he used to play at Old Trafford – central midfield.

Andrey Santos joined from Chelsea in a deal worth around £48m, with the Brazilian midfielder immediately establishing himself as a firm part of Carrick’s plans..

Belgium captain Youri Tielemans also arrived, signing from Aston Villa for £35m after a strong World Cup, with United triggering a release clause that left many fans in the Midlands frustrated, such was the former Leicester man’s importance to their midfield.

The biggest signing in the centre of the park came when Carlos Baleba joined from Brighton, following a protracted saga that dates back to summer 2025.

Goalkeeper Karl Darlow joined on a free transfer from Leeds United, while highly-rated youngster Tynan Thompson completed a move from Tottenham worth an initial £4m.

Man Utd Departures 2026/27

Total summer sales: £53m

Rasmus Hojlund completed a permanent move to Napoli worth £43m, with the Italian club’s Champions League qualification triggering the obligation to buy following his loan spell in Serie A.

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro left Old Trafford following the expiry of his contract, while Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho have also left on free deals following disappointing spells in the red shirt.

Andre Onana extended his stay in Turkey with another loan move to Trabzonspor, while Altay Bayindir joined Celta Vigo on a permanent basis. A third goalkeeper, 22-year-old Radek Vitek, has been sold on to Middlesbrough for an initial fee of £7m, potentially rising to £14m.

Another youngster, Tyler Fredricson, has joined INEOS-owned Lausanne for a nominal, undisclosed fee, and it’s a permanent exit too for Toby Collyer, joining West Brom.

Who is Man Utd’s Record Signing?

Man Utd’s record signing is Paul Pogba, who returned from Juventus in 2016 for a fee of £89m.

The French midfielder had come through the club’s academy before leaving for Turin in 2012, and his second spell at Old Trafford had plenty of ups and downs before his contract expired in 2022.

All in all, Pogba scored 39 times and provided 51 assists in 233 United games.
