Aliss Al Islam earns maiden ODI call-up as Bangladesh unveil squad for UAE Tri-Series

Bangladesh have announced their squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series in the United Arab Emirates, with mystery spinner Aliss Al Islam emerging as one of the notable inclusions. The 29-year-old has received his maiden call-up to the 50-over side following a series of impressive performances in domestic cricket. Afghanistan and Zimbabwe will join Bangladesh in the tri-series, which begins on October 17 in Abu Dhabi.

The squad also marks Litton Das’ return to the ODI setup as captain, while fast bowler Hasan Mahmud has been included after returning to the selectors’ plans. However, Nahid Rana remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from a side strain.

Aliss Al Islam rewarded for impressive domestic show

Aliss has earned his opportunity at the international level after consistently delivering with the ball in domestic List A cricket. The mystery spinner has claimed 35 wickets in 19 matches at an average of 17.05 and an economy rate of 4.05, numbers that highlight his ability to make an impact while maintaining control.

Known for his ability to bowl with the new ball, Aliss offers Bangladesh an additional option in their bowling attack. His performances have convinced the selectors to give him an opportunity to prove himself in the 50-over format. Although he has limited international experience, Aliss has already represented Bangladesh in T20Is. He made his debut during the Asian Games in Japan earlier this month, featuring in one T20I for the national team.

The UAE tri-series will now provide the 29-year-old with an opportunity to take the next step in his international career and demonstrate whether his domestic success can translate into performances against international opposition.

Litton Das returns as captain

Litton will lead Bangladesh in the tournament after being appointed captain earlier this year, replacing Mehidy Hasan Miraz in July. The wicketkeeper-batter has impressed in the T20I leadership role, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has now placed him in charge of the ODI side.

Mehidy remains part of the squad, but the board previously indicated that it wanted to ease his leadership responsibilities and allow him to concentrate on his all-round contributions. His experience with both bat and ball will remain important as Bangladesh prepare for the three-team competition.

Mahmud’s inclusion provides another option for the pace department. Bangladesh will also rely on experienced fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman, alongside Shoriful Islam, as they look to build a balanced bowling attack for the tournament.

The selection reflects Bangladesh’s intention to combine established international performers with players seeking to strengthen their positions in the national setup.

Nahid has not been named in the squad as he continues his rehabilitation from a side strain. The fast bowler last played competitive cricket in July 2026 and has subsequently missed several assignments, including the Test series in Australia, the Asian Games in Japan and the ongoing one-off Test against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh will begin their UAE tri-series campaign against Zimbabwe on October 17 in Abu Dhabi. Afghanistan are the third participant in the competition.
