Man Utd star is en route to becoming a £100m talent
One of the Premier League’s games of the season unfolded at Old Trafford this evening, as Manchester United and Aston Villa played out an eight-goal thriller.
The clash between the Red Devils and Villans ended 4-4 at Old Trafford, with Michael Carrick no doubt the happier of the two managers after such a series of events.
Given the nature of the point, it’s likely that the 45-year-old has seen the pressure once again be lifted off his shoulders, but it looked for long periods as though he would be facing the sack.

How Man Utd’s draw with Aston Villa played out
After just four minutes of the meeting this evening, it looked as though it would be yet another game to forget for Carrick and United in the 2026/27 campaign.
Goals from Alysson and Nicolas Jackson put the visitors two goals ahead, which was incidentally the quickest the Red Devils have ever been two goals behind in the Premier League.
However, two goals before the break from Bruno Fernandes and Youri Tielemans would restore parity and ensure Carrick’s side entered the break on level terms.
Such a situation would be ruined within seven minutes of the second period, as John McGinn and Leon Goretzka ensured Unai Emery’s men would re-enter a two-goal lead.
All hope of a second comeback seemed dead and buried, as the hosts entered stoppage time still trailing the visitors by the same 4-2 scoreline.
However, substitutes Joshua Zirkzee and Patrick Dorgu would secure a late draw for the Red Devils and deny Villa all three points for the fourth consecutive season.

How Bruno helped United secure a memorable comeback
As has often been the case over recent seasons, midfielder Fernandes was one of United’s shining lights during the superb late fightback at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese international ignited the first comeback from two goals down after slotting his penalty home past opposition goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
However, it wasn’t his only goal contribution of the encounter, as he delivered a perfect cross onto the head of Dorgu, who netted the second equaliser of the contest to secure the 4-4 draw.
The 32-year-old’s underlying stats also showcase his impressive nature during the draw, as he managed to create the joint-most chances of any player on the pitch (4).

Why United star now looks like a £100m talent after Villa
For many years, Bruno has been United’s go-to man for reliable and quality performances, which has often made him the club’s most influential first-team member.
However, given his age, there’s no denying he’s entering the back end of his professional career, and the Red Devils need to find a player who can lead them into the next generation.
He may feature in a slightly deeper role than Fernandes, but despite the recent tricky run, midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has continued to be a shining light.
The academy product has been a crucial member of the squad since Carrick’s arrival, and the manager’s faith in the 21-year-old is warranted given his showing this evening.
The Englishman featured for the entirety of the contest at Old Trafford and managed to register the most touches of any player on the pitch (83), as he often dictated the play from deep-lying positions.
Such a figure allowed him to register a 91% pass completion rate during the draw, whilst also making 21 line-breaking passes – the most of any player in Carrick’s starting eleven.
Mainoo’s quality in possession allowed him to complete two successful dribbles and create one big chance – with the youngster producing a performance way beyond his tender years.
However, he was just effective without the ball against the Villans, as seen by his impressive tally of 70% ground duels won, whilst also coming out on top in 100% of his aerial battles.
He also managed to make a staggering five tackles and ball recoveries, with the youngster undoubtedly showing signs of living up Manchester Evening News journalist Tyrone Marshall’s tag of being “a £100m player.”
After such a display, Mainoo was handed a 9/10 match rating, with the midfielder now undoubtedly one of the first names on Carrick’s teamsheet in Manchester.
Bruno may have been the club’s leading talent over recent years, but today’s showing was one that could see the passing of the baton to Mainoo – who is integral to United’s hopes of emulating their former glory.
